If you've got a mac, get 'infinity', you too can sound like
fennesz.

i listened to it in the recordstore last week (it was on
sale for 1/2 price, and i'd heard lots of nice things about
him). The album was "endless summer", but i didn't like it
at all :-s

I like noisy music in general, but this just seemed like
random noise to me. Like he didn't put all those clicks and
scratches there on purpose, but that the mastertape got
damaged or whatever. I found it to be very exhausting to
listen to... and didn't buy it.

Was i wrong? Would the album grow on me if i listened to it
more? I've heard fennesz being compared to BOC, and i do
like BOC...

Dude, have you really listened to "Endless summer"? His
previous albums could sound like random stream of cracks and
pops to an untrained ear, but endless summer is very
obviously treated guitar playing very nice melodies.

well i did listen to it in a crowded recordstore over crappy
headphones... that didn't help, but still..

Yeah i heard guitarplaying in there... but it hardly sounded
like pretty melodies. One track was just the sound of a cd
skipping?!?

I'll probably listen to it again, or just buy it since it's
so cheap and i am curious about it...

but my view about the randomness of it remains the same. I'd
like to think that an artist would put every single little
click on the *exact* right spot so as to make the track as
perfect as possible... but with fennesz it really sounded to
me like it was just random. I'm not sure what "infinity" is
(see earlier post by jivverdicker), but i can certainly
imagine there is a program that would be able to create that
same sort of noise... just a trick?

But i probably should keep my mouth shut now :-x
Haven't really listened to it well enough to make big
statements about it.

Er I like "Endless Summer" a lot, its a beautiful Album, and
very emotionally, the contrast between the noise and the
broken lil melodies have a very melodramtic feel to it

yeah, it's ok. some of the guitar effects sound familiar,
tho :)

i like the last track and a year in a minute a lot

okay, i have to take back what i said about fennesz a month
ago :-)

bought the cd yesterday, and after listening to it all last
night (with headphones... in a quiet environment... it makes
quite a difference!)... i must say i really really like it.

It's just gorgeous the way all the beautiful melodies are
drowned in so much noise. My favourite moment would have to
be in 'year in a minute', towards the end, where the noise
stops for a bit, and you can hear the melody more or less
clear... that's just awesome! Like an oasis (of melody and
calmness) in a dessert (of noise) ;-)

Hower is just cannot get into 'before i leave'... it's just
the sound of a skipping cd-player... i don't think he's
manipulated it at all? It just reminds me of my old
cd-player when it was broken... can't find any beauty in
it.

Oh well... otherwise an excellent album!

he plays guitars & piano and then uses the laptop, that's
why his songs has that 'organic' feeling.

i felt in love with 'endless summer' when i was listening
this cd and watching hong kong by night in the roofgarden of
my hotel !
