you think idm is a pretentious name?

...so what would you say about the institution calling
itself "justice"?

recently, two webmasters have been condamned to pay
€94'000 to a commercial website, because they had a forum
where people criticized it (besides, this commercial site
had already been sued before).

i don't know if you were aware of it, since it's a french
affair, but this is utterly disgusting. these people don't
have enough money to pay this, they would need their whole
life to pay it if nothing's done. the website has already
had their cars taken by ushers.

...just wanted to let you know.

they were ordered to pay this money because a forum had
slagged them off?

the 2 webmasters of a forum had to pay because the members
of the forum slagged off that particular commercial website?

no... the webmasters were ordered to pay this money because
people on their forum criticized another (commercial)
website.

a committee has been set up to support them, days
without forums have been set up as a strike... i hope this
will be useful to them, but i'm afraid nothing can be
done... this is so fucked up =(

i don't see what's communist in this affair -_ '

oh ok uzim - that's insane - that's violation of civil
liberties - don't you have them in france any more??

what does the fact that idm is called pretentious have to do
with this act?

do you think that the commercial website is being
pretentious?

offline uzim on 2002-07-17 22:51 [#00313402]
Points: 17716 Status: Lurker

no... that's because i think calling idm "intelligent" isn't
pretentious compared to the institution of justice calling
itself "justice".

ohhhhhh...... now i get what you mean.

Yeah, isnt sueing them for that reason in breach of the UN
civil rights act or something?

well i don't know, but i really hope this is a violation of

i get the fact that idm, to some people, sounds pretentious,
and i understand youre trying to say that it's not
pretentious compared to the story you told, but i dont get
who's pretentious in the story though...

anyway, which company was bashed by which company's forum
members? sounds pretty harsh o make em pay that much for
this reason alone.

i'm not calling it braindance...that's for crapp ass wannabe
shit on rephlex records. IDM fits perfectly, The music is
very mathimatical, and has computer/math/science overtones.
It also has a lot to deal with acid. A lot of IDM is
listened to by comp geeks, and bio chemists (the fields i'm
looking into), in the AF as a way to escape/entertain/aid
the trip.

It's intelligent music for intelligent ppl. or nerdy music
for nerdy ppl. Now, dance shouldn't be taking as a singular
word, it's should be Intelligent-Dance, thus meaning not
simple BD OH BD OH, but lot's of unique, and intelligent
beat programming. I could go on and on, but i don't think
that's this term is either elitist, or pretentious.

i didn't miss the point of the thread, i didn't even read it
at all. I quickly looked at the topic and thought "crap, now
a bunch of wankers are going to wank off about the term IDM
not being a good term" like many other threads with simular
topics.

*yawn* i'm thirsty.

you're right CORTEX...

the company who sued the webmasters is pere-noel.fr.
the site with the forum has been closed. it didn't belong to
a company.
