Man... sometimes I feel so out of reach with my dad, its like, I try to talk to him sometimes and so does he, but its hard to explain where I'm coming from, we never quite see eye-to-eye. Like just now, he was asking me about this mb, and about Aphex Twin, and i basically gave him the standard bare minimum teenager response, and wished right after he left that I hadn't, but I wonder if he even cares anyway... =/

i have the same relationship with my step-dad - well - ''did'' - we talk more now - i just had to find a common interest with him - heh - (he used to dj) - all you have to do is find something you're both interested in - it worked for me

My mom likes BoC and the Selected ambient Works by AFX tho :)

I really didn't used to get on with my dad. He was always quite distant. As I've got older I've found we have similair literary tastes and he likes chess too. Our relationship is quite strained at times, but I suppose thats normal among fathers & sons.

Sometimes that's how it works out. My dad and I always talked and stuff when I was younger, but now we go out and do things together. He doesn't live with my mom and I anymore, because they got a divorce, but he keeps in touch with me.

Do you play chess much, Ceri? I wish I had more friends around here that did, I've got no one to play with. Just this little hand-held computer.

Not as often as I'd like to, I don't enjoy it as much against machines as people. I started playing chess from about 4 and from the ages of 8 to about 13/14 I was very good for my age. I'm nothing special now, but I can beat all the people I know who play apart from my dad. He's not excellent by any means, but he's pretty good- he often gets to the mensa chess tournament quarter finals...

I don't chit chat much with my dad, it doesn't bother me. He taught me how to play chess, well just the basics. If any of you want to play, send me an AIM. Maybe we can hook up via yahoo or something.

I prefer humans to machines. I don't know, there's just more -- 'emotion' when you play against a real person.

Playing the machine isn't much fun, they don't make human errors. At least when you're playing someone there's a chance they might not see what you're trying to set up, with a computer they've got pre-programmed defenses. It's like you spend 15 minutes thinking up a good move then you get COCKBLOCKED in 2 seconds by the computer.
Plus it's not satisfying beating a machine.
It's like masturbation.
