Downtempo recommendations

I am looking for downtempo stuff for DJing.

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? Artist
names are useful, but album or individual track titles would
be even better. Then I can download them and buy them on
vinyl if I like them.

To give you an idea, the sort of stuff I am after is BOC,
Amon Tobin, Herbaliser, etc. i.e. fairly slow, consistent
beats, chilled out and laid-back. Not necessarily that
IDM-ish! Less than 105BPM.

Hip-hop suggestions also gratefully received.

Thanks guys

I'll be checking those recommendations out this evening.

Does anyone have any more? Particularly instrumental stuff
(i.e. no rapping or lyrics). There's loads of good stuff on
Ninja Tune - anyone else have any favourites?

the only decent hip hop I know (and I don't know much hip
hop) is Clouddead. They're good.

Hip hop artist = Roots Manuva. Rodney Smith, the rapper, was
on an Amon Tobin song ('Saboteur' I think).

Well his albums are "BrandNewSecondHand" and "Run
Come Save Me"
.

Stand-out songs i think are:
movements (amazing song)
baptism
strange behaviour
wisdom falls

ital visions
stone the crows
sinny sin sins
highest grade
dreamy days

"BrandNewSecondHand" is more down-tempo i think.

It's from the UK scene too, so everyone will love you!

It sounds like we've had the same DJ gig. Anyways,
Down-tempo stuff that I found went over well with a hipster
bar crowd.

The Mushroom Jazz Series from OM Records. (Don't let the
name fool you. This is straight up instrumental hip-hop.
Very nice stuff. Better than the also recommended OM Lounge
series. Mushroom Jazz 2 is my favorite of the series)

Nightmares on Wax - Carboot Soul (warps best chill album)

You mentioned Ninja Tune, but not The Cinematic Orchestra.
I'd go with their 'Ode to the Big Sea/Channel 1 Suite' split
single.

Kruder & Dorfmesiter K & D sessions
The Irresistable Force - It's Tomorrow Already (My personal
favorite down-tempo album, althoubh it's a challenge to
smoothly mix with other stuff)
Tricky-Maxinquaye (People still love it)
Cibo Mato - (Both their albums have some solid tracks on
them)

good luck

Theivery Corp DJ-Kicks kicks!
Those new ManRay collections border on SwankTempo...very
good. (Has Song For Jack by Lemon Jelly)
Tosca is fine too, some of FoutTet is fairly downtempo w/o
getting too "weird"
The Bebel Gilberto Remix album (from Tampo Tempo) is very
nice, yes?

You looking chill-tempo or lounge-tempo?
