State what "EP" and "LP" stand for. We are in an arguement
here.

EP = Extended Play

LP = Long Play

Are there definite restrictions on what defines these or a
'single' for that matter. I've noticed EPs with less tracks
than singles. What is the story?

In the UK there are very strict guidelines over what
constitutes a "Single". It is a combination of number of
tracks on the CD, length of the tracks etc.

That is why you find many singles in the UK being released
on two discs (such as Come to Daddy) when it was first
released.

Anything that wasn't eligible to be a Single was called an
EP.

i thought that a single has to include a song from the
actual album, and an ep didnt.

for me:

-ventolin = single
-windowlicker = ep

-basscadet = single
-cichli suite, envane, ep7 and a whole lot more = eps

No Window Licker was a Single and Ventolin was an EP.

actually ICBYD which is technically a compilation hence
Ventolin is an EP by your own definition

?? i said ventolin was a single, since icbyd is an lp.

Ventolin had too many tracks on it to be a single.

*i thought that a single has to include a song from the
actual album, and an ep didnt. *

but ICBYD is not an album it is a compilation and hence
Ventolin cannot be said to be from an *album*..hence it is
an EP

i was under the impression that icbyd was clearly labeled as
an album, not a compilation... what makes you think it is,
though?

ICBYD is still an album even if it is a compilation of
tracks. It would still fall in the LP bracket.

Shops put ICBYD in the album section. not compilation
section or
singles section.

because it IS..it compiles tracks from like 1990 ot
1993..years are clearly marked with the year they were
created in

so, i guess by your logic, nin's the fragile is also a
compilation, since it compiles songs made in 1997 to 1999...

on Fragile Trent has gone out of his way to create as
seamless and flowing experience..he hasnt made a conscious
effort to make you aware of which year each song was
created...

ok, i understand what you mean. since rdj made the
conscious effort to indicate the dates, that makes his album
a compilation, unlike only taking up a long time before
getting an album together à la fragile...

maybe icbyd is a compilation afterall, but wouldnt drukqs be
one too (since he told himself he just threw a bunch of
tracks together from that lost minidisc)? or, because he
hasnt written the actual year in which the tracks were
created, he avoids the 'compilation' title?

this is getting a bit complicated...!

this is getting a bit complicated...!

tell me about it :)

I mean even SAW I has been compiled and packaged as a
compilation hasnt it?

i believe it's perceived as an album (if i ca rely on what
allmusic.com says...), but the title obviously tells us it's
a compilation (with the years)...

damn! i dont know what's what anymore!

and i forgot what the inialt goal of this 'argument' was...
lol

you thought we were having an argument? :(

why does everyone always think that..
I mean I call em discussions and the next thing I know
people start swearing and name calling...

A compilation is still an album...Usually the term album
refers to a collection of one artists work, a compilation a
collection of various artists work.

maybe not an argument (i think it has a somewhat negative
meaning in english). discussion would be a better term ;)
