emotronicks(dntel, MuM, lali puna)- i cannot find this
influences there but maybe i am deaf...

I'm here, I'm here, yes, I have all the respect in the world
for FUGAZI, and I used to listen to them in my time but, to
be honest they were never in my top ten list. But their
music is excellent combination of energy and emotion. Which
can't be said for a lot of emocore bands out there.

"You think I don't know what a fuckin fugazi is?"

Quote from Donnie Brasco (Al Pacino).

FUGAZI: someone says it's short for fuckedupsituation, a
common sintagm in US corps at the time of vietnam war.

Nice to see ya too, iron, yeah, most new emo sucks shit... I
respect Fugazi for being fiercely independent and DIY after
all these years!!!

According to Acronym Finder it's 'Fouled Up, Got Ambushed,
Zipped In' (British military slang)

Do you like Minor Threat, Iron? Or you, Steamtank? That's
where Fugazi came from.

offline manicminer from Paris (France) on 2002-06-18 14:47 [#00272566]

In the film Donnie Brasco, "Fugazi" means "fake". It's a
film about the Mafia, and it seems to be an Italian-American
word.

Perhaps it's Italian for "fake"?

I LOVE Minor Threat...Ian is such a madman songwriter...

As for the Donnie Brasco quote...I'm pretty sure that
"Stugatz"

Pronounced - "Stu - Gots"

Oh and FUBAR is the other referance I think that ManicMiner
is talking about...

Actually, now that I think more, MY BAD, MINER you may be
closer than I know....Your RIGHT,

In Donnie Brasco he DOES call the "fake jewels" a
Fugazi...BUt I think its a totally different thing, dont
they pronounce it

a "Fo -Gayzee"...Who knows, my mind is not totally awake
yet...(wheres my coffee)

Either WAY...FUGAZI fuckin rocks.....

Hi Iron

I have the Donnie Brasco DVD, and one of the chapters on it
is actually named "The Fugazi", and it's spelt that way
too.

Weird. According to that film, it's definitely Mafia-speak
for "fake".

I've heard SO much about this band in the last couple years,
and I'm ashamed to admit that I've never heard them...
didn't have time, it's been a jam packed last 18 months of
music listening, and guitar music wasn't at the top of my
priorities.

Note to self... check out this fucking band.

Read about them in an article about Emo in the paper
today... didn't think they WERE ''Emo''.

What an annoying article.
