I can, pantalaimon.
Scatology is really cool, industrial stuff.
Musick to Play in the Dark is unlike anything else and is my
favorite.
Lots of people love The Horse Rotovator, which is strange
kinda industrial.
And How To Destroy Angels is some really great ambient stuff
but not as good as Musick to Play in the Dark--I'd get both
volumes of that first.

Get the rare ones first before they're gone... then get the
rest ;)

Yah--Musick to Play in the Dark is pretty limited--older
stuff has been reprinted and is easier to find.

their best-known and "classic" album is Love's Secret
Domain... (just thought this had to be mentioned. :))

there were 4 EPs, one for each season, which were released
only during the season... (Moon's Milk, Bee Stings, Amethyst
Deceivers and North) i think these are quite rare, but i
heard they were going to be re-released together as "Moon's
Milk (in four phases)"...

and btw i heard this place were selling it at cheaper
prices:

(got this from another board :))

Play in the Dark.

Those are two of their best in my opinion..
Vol.II especially. I'd be interested in hearing your
impressions once you get a chance to listen to them.

ok, i'll let you know when i get them... if they have them
in stock it should be in the next few days.

my only previous experience of Coil is the remixes they did
for NIN and a couple of downloaded tracks. Hope they live up
to my expectations.

I hope so, pantalaimon! I love them, I've heard everything
by Coil--I have most stuff on CD-R. I don't know what I'm
missing, but it's not much. Some collaborations, I think.
If you like Trent's stuff like a warm place or reptile, I
bet Musick to Play in the Dark will float your boat. It's
very well-done stuff.

Here are some other tracks I definitely recommend
downloading by Coil:
Heartworms
Ostia (the death of Pasolini)
Panic (probably the most well-known of any of their stuff)
I don't want to be the one
and Muur, a 20-minute masterpiece!

get Horse Rotorvator first, its the best to start on I
think, if you like that one get Scatology after.

hey Uzim, love your pic :) Lain is God...

WHOA!!!!

the coil/nin remixes aren't really anything like their
regular releases...except that firt remix on the "fixed" EP,
has a sample of coil's "protection" track...you're going to
be in for a surprise! but it will be a pleasent suprise!

Their black sun mix of Depeche Mode's "Rush" is really
great, too!

I really don't think Horse Rotorvator or Scatology would be
good places to start..
Especially for a cute little Asian girl.
I would recommend getting 'Coil Presents: Black Light
District - A Thousand Lights in a Darkened Room' first.

Yes, that's another one of my favorites..
It's queer how the music on that record actually affects you
in accordance with the statements they've made about it's
intended effects. According to John Balance, the premise
behind this release is that hallucinogens act as time
machines - they can conjure up histories of yourself and/or
act as predictors of the future. In any case, they can
remove you from "temporal reality". These tracks on this
disc are not only formulas for hallucinogens, but have been
tested, retested, rejected, et cetera. I've never
experienced anything so transcedental in music before.
Welcome to the board Wormsine.

By the way, 'Moons Milk(In Four Phases)' was released about
a month or two ago as a doubledisc. It contains all the
material from the EPs as well as a live version of 'Amethyst
Deceivers' performed sometime during their last tour.

thanks for the welcome, Cabbog.
i've got all Coil albums thru last year.
their musical evolution is quite interesting, the early
stuff being sharp, harsh, while the later stuff flows with
more complex melody. the control of sound to stimulate
emotion/energy is simply amazing. another really good one is
the Protection EP....the last 3 tracks dv8 greatly from
Protection, but they are the true stars being evolving
minimal organic creations.

Yes,
Glimpse, Crawling Spirit, and pHILM are all very strange and
fascinating songs.. Balance credits their work as ElpH to
the influence of an extraterrestrial being of some sort.

Do you have Musick to Play in the Dark Vol.II?
'Batwings (A Limnal Hymn)' is one of the most breathtaking
songs I've ever heard.
Have you read this interview?

i can't recommend a CD to get, however i really like their
sound.

during the Fragility tour NIN played quite a bit of Coil
before the show started. i'm gonna save this thread in my
favourites and when i'm ready to buy i'll look at some of
these suggestions! =0)
