This is my first post in a couple of years. I'm just hoping
we see a better recording pop up before the tour is over.
I, like many of us probably, get a lot of listening mileage
out of these live recordings. They satisfy in a particular
way that the studio albums don't really intend to.

I really hope that AE surprise us one day with a surprise
stash of quality recordings of their live sets. Sean and
Rob have mentioned that they consider the live sets more
special if they don't release recordings of them... but the
music from their lives sets is so good, so hardcore, so
intensely amped and manic, complex and unique, that it seems
so "wasteful" for it to be heard once and never again. I
guess Quaristice tried to address that somewhat. It's their
music though, so it's up to them.

When compared to their studio releases which are also
complex and richly textured, Autechre's live sets always
seem to also scratch away at some primal or maybe "tribal"
part of the brain - driving you deep into some frantic and
obsessive frame of mind. I love that about these sets. As
if they were the soundtrack of an unrelenting,
tension-filled, futuristic, paranoid action film.

I like the club ambience in live recordings. Sometimes the
soundboard recordings can be lacking in that respect. The
sets were never intended to be heard without the room
acoustics contributing something to the effect. But a
byproduct of getting recordings from a guy at crowd level is
all the chatter. It's okay when you can't make out what's
being said, or when it's yelling and cheering that amp you
up. What I don't get is how so many people who go to these
live gigs spend their time talking about the most mundane
shit right next to the recorder, and that ends up tainting
the live recordings. Inane bullshit that makes me think,
"Man, how can you not be totally consumed by this
experience? Pay attention and enjoy, because this is more
rare than you realize."

I prefer soundboards. I know what you and ae mean about
preferring to have the atmosphere etc but it always ends up
sounding shittier than a sb dub.

mr psylocibin303, please upload that recording : the only
recent set i've heard has a rather poor sound. yes, its
pretty bad that they never released any quaristice sets.

From this recording, in my mind, the 2010 set sounds more
similar to the 2001 set than anything more recent. That was
a wicked set too.

Later this year, there will be a 3disc limited edition
boxset that consists of a soundboard recordings from each of
their 2005, 2008, and 2010 live sets.

they could be bothered sitting on a plane long enough to do
show in Australia. I guess once was enough for them.
