Anyone else getting a perverse pleasure from holding off
the leaks/samples to wait for that needle to hit the wax?

How does digital music sound different on vinyl?

Don't take it as offense, but hasn't a digital record been
rendered into a format, say, .wav, then burned onto a vinyl?
Or do they have any other technique?

When vinyls was the new deal, the music was recorded live to
a tape, then made into a vinyl. Is it that a vinyl, say the
Drukqs LP, could contain more information than a cd, even
though both the cd and the vinyl have the same source, ie.
the wav-file? Theoretically, shouldn't they sound the same?

Digital is hard with cheese and tomatoe around the edges and
vinyl is fluffy and more salty

i think you can have digital formats (including wavs) with a
higher sample rate / frequency (up to 192, for what i know).
youre reducing quality while recording on a CD = 44.1 Hz,
but then you can a have better quality (full info from the
better digital format) on vinyl. (sorry for bad
explanation--->stoned)

i know it's a dead debate but i think vinyl is pretty much a
fetishistic hangover. i like a bit of warm surface crackle
as much as the next chap but the "analogue is better
quality" argument, while technically true, seems like a bit
of a fallacy. the mastering process is an arcane pain in the
arse, all the deep bass has to be mono so yer needle doesn't
jump about, i'm no audio engineer but why bother trying to
approximate something digitally created into something it
wasn't necessarily intended as, subtle as the difference may
be?

(the delayed gratification thing is separate and something i
also don't really understand and now i will shut up)

Hey i'm no vinyl fetsihest at all.... but there's something
special about waiting and anticipating the post, unwrapping
a package, handling a big-ass peice of plastic and setting
the needle down. I only do it for big releases and have
plenty of mp3s i loved.... but ritualising the whole
experience physicaly gives me a buzz....

When i hear those tunes for the first time... they'll be
completely mine with zero input form the 100's of opinions
on the material already out there. Sure i can seperate
external opinions from my own but..... I'm gonna go all zen
with this one!

yep, i've not listened to any leaks and i haven't even
listened to the FACT podcast.

waiting for the vinyl to arrive before i listen for the
first time

ya do that guys, wait it out. yer doing the right thing,
listening to the leak spoiled it a bit tbh.

the FACT mix however, if i were you i'd listen to that to
get even more pumped. It doesn't forestall anything.

i think i'm just gonna wait until after i get it - that way,
when i'm left wanting more i can just start up the FACT
podcast

My advice is wait... about 60 years, should be dead by then
so won't have to listen to this crummy excuse for music.

you are welcome :)

but i dont think artists work their music in higher quality
than 44.1 khz,
so after all i dont know if all i said is that relevant...
maybe the key is in the masterization process, as you need
an special masterization for vinyl,
so maybe you can improve there the quality of the music to
fit the final format specifications (deepest bass, for
example). but thats all blablabla and i dont really know if
its true...

well the bleep releases come with those
high quality "24bit / 44.1kHz" .wav files.

guess'n that is what the vinyl will be cut from.

so for your first listen through if its virgin vinyl, should
sound better qualityer than the cd (maybe)?

dunno if i got your question, but

if it comes from a higher digital quality format,
or from an analogue format,
vinyl should definetly sound better,
as it allows full original sound wave information on it.

if what you mean is if vinyl recorded from 24 bits/44.1 wav
files
sounds better than cd, i guess it would, slightly better,
as cd is only 16 bits.

requestion if i didnt answered what you wanted!

+ im not a usual vinyl listener (cd quality is fine for
me),
only those album i cant have on cd.

+ after all, final listening quality on vinyl depends also
of your vinyl player, as it introduces mecanical inherent
noise + EQ riaa, while optical systems work always perfect
(or imperfect), not middle therm...

bla!
