When anything reaches super mainstream it's the end but then a new beginning. Like jazz goes fusion and poppy. And club music with lasers. And Vanilla Ice. The new McDonald's ad is dubstep, and I hear Burger King is competing with a breakcore ad.
If some gangsta rapper who was shot and been in a coma since the 80's woke up today, he would wonder why everyone looks so yo yo yo. Like waking up into some surreal alternate universe.

the dubstep sound goes kind of against my sensibilities
they use very basic waveforms / synths and lots of resonance.
i kind of like advanced modulated synths and little resonance.

That is true. What's incredible is that the ultra rich listen to a genre that the common man doesn't even have access to. I heard some once for about 2 seconds when I was painting a mural for this rich mofo, and it blew my mind! Made Aphex Brothers Pushers sound like shit. It was barely sound. It was more like holographic sex on salvia in several dimensions simultaneously, with your head inside that huge ass wheel.
The poor apparently listen to extremely fast banjo music or hip hop.

Kode 9 played in Malmoe some years ago. I thought it was shit.
I wasn't too keen on dubstep until I saw Living Inside the Speaker (Michael Thomas & Mark Walter, 2007). There I got a feeling for the movement and the idea. The documentary was screened as a prequel to Musically Mad (Karl Folke, 2008) about roots reggae soundsystems. I was taught the relation between these styles and now respect their passion.
But I only have Grime 2 (with a now more appreciated Kode 9) to listen to. That's one (important) aspect, that the music shouldn't be released in extenso/en masse; dubstep like roots reggae soundsystems artists press often their music direct to a unique vinyl that's played on a massive, custom made soundsystem for a definately original dance experience.
Deconstructively, dubstep could be regarded as "old man's rave music". The rave generation of the late 80's and early 90's is getting older and slower, thus need a different kind of music for an all-nighter.
Dubstep has feeling. It's indirect, unclear, but it's there. Feel it.

i just resent the fact that any decent nights out have disappeared as everyone is putting on boring shitty dubstep all night. it's not dance music. why cant everyone just stay at home and listen to their boring music there instead of moodily flopping about like idiots to the amazing wobbly bassline? even psy trance is more fun.

Dubstep isn't really danceable, therefore rave oldies promote it and kids like it, afraid of blurring mascara and sweating expensive clothing. People really don't like to dance, it's non-fashionable.
IDM is also quite non-danceable. Give me some distorted acid or classic bangin' Detroit techno.

if people arent dancing then you just aren't going to the right places. good dubstep makes you flip your shit!
and yeah, like most people with brains have said in this thread (and 5 thousand times before) 99% of all music is shit, therefore 99% of ANY genre is going to be shit.
and i think dubstep is going in an interesting direction, getting a lot more melodic (well one end is, then there's the mega-synth future maddness which is just pushing it more towards an exercise in pure sound heaviness) and trippy with its production.
for some really forward thinking dubstep, check out eskmo and untold's productions.

Thematically the whole scene is interesting, cuz after how many nights does one get tired of some dark and wobbly "stubbly face detective" cool feeling? There's a reason why rave was so popular for so long, and that's cuz people like being happy. Drugs or not, there was happy and dancy, which totally beats going "ugh- uh- yeah-", like some hip hop music video or something.
So I think old school 4 ballz on the floor is very in tune with animals and their heartbeats, so the bd in the 4/4 sound is like emphasizing life or something.

Soften and dislodge dubstep by applying different music detergent. It is important to use only music detergent that will not clog the pores, such as indie music detergent. Pour around 1 tablespoon of music detergent into the palms of the hands, and massage the music detergent onto the skin using a deep pressure. After about 2 minutes of massaging, let the music detergent remain on the skin for an additional 5 minutes. After the allotted time, fill a bowl with nearly boiling water, and lean over the bowl no closer than twelve inches. Cover the head and bowl with a towel so that the steam envelops the skin. After about 5 minutes, wipe off the music detergent and sweat from the skin using the towel.
