Amazing film - best film I've seen in years. Sean Penn is an incredible writer director.
Your thoughts on the film?

Same - did you cry when it showed his note at the end, and he signed it with his real name? Overall, several moments which pound tears out of the eyes.

This topic coaxed me to get around to seeing it, I loved it. That McCandless fella left me feeling fascinated and frustrated, then kind of sad.
And Eddie Vedder actually did a really good job with the music.

To think he went all that way to find truth, when all along that truth was on his doorstep.
Its true. To find happiness is one step, but it pays little service when it is possessed. For wisdom to grow, it must change hands.

can't say i really enjoyed this, granted i haven't read the book.
to be frank, i don't like the actor. not for any particular reason, it's just one of those things that you just dislike for no-damn-reason-whatsoever.
looking past that, i was really expecting more solitude of him in the wilderness, struggling to live and cope. i was instead bombarded with time spent on showing his trip *to* the wilderness ... not much of him actually in it.
i was really hoping for a bit more of that "tom hanks / desert island movie" where he's just alone and surviving. i really didn't care much about his "story" as i was hoping for a wilderness movie.
guess i'll have to read the book. all in all, good movie made no doubts there, i was just walking in with different expectations of what it would be entailed.
the self-portrait shot at the end hit home hard. great moment

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd have to rank it as the biggest pile of steaming poo I've layed my eyes on in recent years, and is right up there on the list of biggest wastes of time in at least 5 years of my life, and that's saying something.
