opinion...I can't even believe people still bother to do it

Getting engaged is a way to show your loved one and the rest
of the world how much you love them

I think it's great =oD

I'm not to fussed on the idea of marrige but I'd like to be
engaged some time ;o)

no, getting married is that....it means nothing until you
marry, any muppets can say they are engaged.....and then to
be 'getting engaged' I see as even less!

offline B3n from Manchester (United Kingdom) on 2002-08-28 18:31 [#00369529]

but you shouldn't have to do anything like that to signify
love anyway...I think you summed it up when you said

"to show....the rest of the world how much you love them"

thats just wrong..that should never enter peoples minds, if
you want to do it, it should be for each other

offline pOgO from behind your belly button fluff on 2002-08-28 18:43 [#00369540]
Points: 12687 Status: Lurker

well I'd like it, it's nice to make people feel special. You
can show someone you love them in so many ways, I just see
engagment as a big gesture and reassurement of love.

It shouldent be needed but sometimes it is =oD

B3n ............. will you marry me ?

lol

offline B3n from Manchester (United Kingdom) on 2002-08-28 18:53 [#00369546]

yeah but my point is that you get these girls saying they're
engaged and you just know they're never going to get
married

as for the last bit, sure...but you'll be at the back of a
loooong queue :D

that i have promised to marry someone. it the first step of
a life together.

70s prog rock can be really cool tho! does he listen to
psychedelica as well?

when do you plan to go get married? i reckon you're a little
too young for it, but there's nothing wrong with getting
engaged for marriage in the future =)

awwwwww

congrats to YOU!

committment used to frighten me, and admitting i was in
'love' has been hard for me too, marriage would be a HUGE
step for me!

it's great when you find your soul mate =0)

i'm 'in love' myself and i'm happy....so i have nothing but
positive things to say about LOVE, MARRIAGE, etc....

awwwww

thats a lovely thing to say =0)

and it's totally normal to be scared, it is a big step. but
you're doing a smart thing by getting engaged and then
waiting a bit to get married.

so when it finally happens you'll be READY and not so
scared, and when you do get scared just look into his EYES
and you won't be scared anymore =0)

Does about to be engaged mean you're about to decide to get
married, or you're just not sending out official
announcements yet?

offline neetta from Finland on 2002-08-28 20:56 [#00369798]

official announcements?

no the fact is that we are getting engaged because we will
be getting married in the future.

i really don't get your point?!

Oh, I was just curious about the fact you said you were
getting engaged soon, which would seem to mean you weren't
yet. Was wondering if there was another step to it.

"engaged to be engaged" we say in america

I knew a young man who gave his wife a 'promise ring' before
an engagement ring, as a sort of extra step in their
relationship. I think they were trying to be really, really
sure of what they wanted.

I don't understand why you need to say this though...if you
love this person that much why not just say you are getting
married and stick to it...to me engagement doesn't signifiy
anything, apart from in some cases people wanting to be the
centre of attention (though i'm not suggesting thats why you
do it, I know people that have)

lets us marry her.

'70s prog rock is FAR better /more respectable than
contemporary mainstream music. And much of it is very good.

Mine is going to be really cheap. I've used it a lot, so it
files under "damaged goods" now. Nah, kidding, I don't want
to get married. I hate marriage: the fact that the state or
the church or the society is supposed to in some way
approve/ legalise my relationship makes me angry.
