tamed down violence, the director was crazy about violence,
it was originally gonna be rated 'x'.

Jesus. Must be pretty violent! The cut version was pretty
full on. He did Starship Troopers as well didn't he?

Both really good films I reckon. Kind of satirical as well.

correctly..

Yeah man, the ED-209 scene where he shoots the employee goes
on a lot longer. You see more damage to Murphy when he gets
shot by Clarance's gang too, it's pretty fucking awful stuff
=oD Great!

"Can you flyyy Bobby"

offline MrX from Fairfield (United States) on 2002-08-19 19:01 [#00355902]

Yea, tha X-rated Robocop has longer scenes-
*where ED-209 goes berserk
*occurs when Lewis and Murphy chase Clarence's gang in the
van. In the R-rated version, when Murphy shoots Bobby in the
leg, you witness it as though you were looking through
Murphy's eyes. However, in the unrated version, the camera
zooms in on the area of of Bobby's leg being shot and
graphically details the impact of each bullet.
*The most extensively cut sequences involves the murder of
Peter Weller's character, Murphy. The director's cut is
almost a full minute longer. It shows Murphy's arm being
shot off (cut completely from the R-rated version) and also
includes an elaborate tracking shot that shows the back of
his head exploding into the camera when he is finally shot
by Clarence Boddicker. This shot is especially missed
because it made use of a fully mechanical prosthetic Murphy
built by make-up special effect artist Rob Bottin. The
unrated director's cut also includes a longer shot of
Murphy's hand being shot off and the camera lingering on his
reaction and his stump.
*Several seconds were also added to the scene where RoboCop
finally kills Clarence by stabbing him in the neck.

hey, speaking of robocop, i just watched it on tv the other
night.

what do you guys think of that song they are playing in that
club robo goes into, to get one of clarence's gang members.

do you know if you can find it on the net or if there was a
soundtrack that they might've made for the movie with that
song on it?

Hah! I know the answer! From the IMDB:

The song "Show Me Your Spine" by P.T.P. is playing in the
club when RoboCop arrests Leon. This song, which features
vocals by Nivek Ogre of Skinny Puppy, has never been
released in any format and can only be heard in this scene.

That version was the first version I ever saw in the UK, and
the one that was available to buy on VHS. Only on TV
broadcasts did they cut that stuff out.

That movie traumatized me when I was a wee little lad... and
that was the original... I'd probably be a full blown serial
killer now if I'd seen it UNCUT.

Thas fuggin bonkers... well, even the rental I used to get
every day (I had tonsilitus (sp) when I was 12 and rented it
every day for like, two weeks) didn't have those bits. You
must have the "under the shelf" copy ;oD

Well, it says on the IMDB that the uncut one was passed in
2001, so if your copy has the bits left in, you may have a
super rare version!

Paul Verhoeven is a classic, if you own the dvd then you can
access one of the featurettes called " Flesh and Steel"
about the making of the film. In it there's Verhoeven raving
on about the anticrist and the "crucifiction to create the
reserection" I think he called it . It's all quite
interesting and a good laugh if you enjoyed the film, and
theres also deleted scenes, one of which is for a topless
pizza restraunt with that character known for the line "I'd
buy that for a dollar", funny shit indeed!

I liked Robocop. extremely violent, but also poignant in a
way.

I even liked Robocop 2 which most people seem to hate..
