ok, so I know you can get like, almost any cd that isnt out
yet, on mp3, example would be the new squarepusher.

several questions:
1. doesnt this ruin the mystique and thrill of getting a new
cd... putting it in the cd player, and hearing it for the
first time?
(i only download unavailible stuff, ie, rare/old live gigs)
2. How long has this been goin on?
3. who do you think leaks them? the artists? the label? some
annonymous jerk? personally id be pissed if mine got
leaked... but perhaps they do it on purpose to get the word
out? if so, then the record company is very hypocrotical...
they say mp3s hurt sales, yet they rely on it to create
buzza about it
4. was geogaddi leaked? i searched for it, but there was
like 1000000 topics... and i dont want to read them all. But
i didnt seem to get the impression that people had heard it
until after the release date...?

* i meant to mention that ill download tracks from an artist
im not familiar with, just to see if i dig it... but never
the whole album. if i dig it, ill buy it and delete the
mp3s, and if i dont like it, ill just delete the mp3s

but if i KNOW i like the artist... i wait for the release
date and buy it

prerelease for reviewing purpose

I once reviewed albums, and i often got them up to 2 month
before the real release.

man, i didnt even think of that...

that sucks... cause theres no way to aviod it...you have to
get it released... but theres no way to control it...

maybe you could just give it to one place to review... no
where else, and when it shows up on the net, you could sue
the fuck out of them, because you know it was them

hehehe

Yeah, but if you only give it to one place, then the review
isnt very legit, plus how will word spread?

I work at a local radiostation, and I got the mp3's for
Drukqs last august, but when it came to Geogaddi there was
no mp3's or promos before the release. So I guess the
artists and the record companies can do a lot to prevent
this, if they want to.

but dammit

id like to have control over my freaking music

i think it would make it so much better if it wasnt leaked.

That way people get all excited about it, all in
anticipation of the release date

they could read all the reviews (asumming they are good) and
get excited to hear it, and the suspense will build up!

but then how was it reviewed by people?

I guess magazines, newspapers and radios get their copies at
the release date or just before. Of course it's cool to read
good reviews of records you're waiting for several
weeks/months before, but I guess it's just as good for the
artists to have the focus and the reviews at the time around
the release-date?

well, it certainly didnt seem to hurt BoC with geogaddi by
not having previews!
