u2 'war'

anyone else agree with me that this album is incredible?
the melodies, the rhythms, the lyrics, even the sound of the
guitars. in my opinion their finest album. i get "new year's
day" stuck in my head on a regular basis. i almost never,
ever listen to rock albums anymore but 'war' is an album
that has persevered through my changes in musical taste.

titsworth,

i dig a lot of U2 but war has never been one of my
favorites. I do love drowning man though. it is definately
an important record for them but my personal favorite is
october. it has a raw quality to it. one thing about u2 is
that they put out quite a few good records while they've
been around. everyone has they're favorites. I'm pretty
sure I remember the edge saying his favorite was
unforgetable. truthfully the only album I haven't been able
to get into is most recent. when I hear stuck in the moment
I want to use the cd as a coster.

i prefer boy to war
there are maybe four songs i only like on war
boy is very raw u2
i think it is the most honest album they have done

Goddamn! Boy is awful. It is an easily discernable attempt
to introduce a band to the masses... at a time when bands
were all oriantated towards selling millions and millions of
records. What I mean by that is that it is not an example of
U2 being honest (because I think U2 have rarely been honest
throughout their career) but rather an example of a band
trying to be seen and heard.

'War' I think is a pretty good album... couple of terrible
moments.... a few hangovers from the previous two records...
but overall, a classic =o)

I like actung baby and zooropa. rattle and hum is that last
of the old u2 so its ok. pop is where I started questioning
whether or not to stay on the ride. its a very creative
record but yet still a bit cheesy. I believe that actung
baby is as good as a record as the joshua tree is. there
just running in opposite directions.

its honest in so far as they were singing about what they
were going through at the time. its an album filled with
youth and the world revolving around themselves. october is
has to do with three members struggling maintain a christian
lifestyle while playing in rock band. war is an angry
record in which it appears that they opened their eyes to
the world around them and didn't like what they saw.

rattle and hum, achtung baby and zooropa and anything beyond
is just tripe..they tried to reinvent themselves as an Irish
INXS...

boy is as honest as u2 got
it was their first album and sang what they wanted to sing
most bands are most honest with the first album
gish for smashing pumpkins is the same story
it is not the most musicaly genious but it is the raw SP and
the most honest also

first of three U2 masterpieces.

electro: did you know that the guy who produced joy
division's albums was supposed to produce u2's debut but u2
and the producer decided against it after ian curtis'
suicide? btw i love "suffer" on gish.

perceptor: it's true, everyone has their own favorite u2
albums - it's quite interesting. some bands have a lot of
agreement on their best album, but u2 almost every album is
equally popular among fans (i saw almost cos zooropa and pop
alienated a lot of fans). personally i hated the new album
asides from the chris vrenna remix of "elevation" and even
that grates on my nerves if i hear it too often. i like
'pop' a lot more.

jarworski: my opinion is that u2 have always been an honest
band, which makes their success all the sweeter for them.
they have hits and misses, but i think it's all quite
sincere. i think pop was very brave of them, i think they
were honestly very interested in electronic music (who
wouldn't be turned on to it, having their albums produced by
brian eno?) and they dove head first into an overwhelming
endeavor. yea, a lot of it is just a big dud, but some of it
works. radiohead followed the exact same approach with kid a
but personally i find that album much more pallatable. if
they were insincere in their music they would've followed
the trends in the 80s which were to either be hair metal or
synth pop. i can't hate u2 cos their music just feels so
honest to me, even when i don't agree with it.

It's the only U2 album I own, it's the only U2 album I
listen to. They could've and should've just retired after
that album and did missionary work or something.

i got all albums except the last one
my brother bought it and i gave it a listen and
yugh
suck
sometimes they need to just relax and chill a bit
you cannot save the world and make music at the same time

War is fucking great alone with their other
albums........the only one that was blah has to be the last
album, but I've been to three of their concerts, their
great.

Achtung Baby is their absolute best. Hands down.
Or maybe Joshua Tree.

War's good, October's pretty awful, sounds really cheesy.

They're currently re-mixing Pop because they were never
pleased with the result. It may get a re-release.
