i do not like weezer at all. I used to like blue and
pinkerton quite a bit when they came out. i HATED green,
and maladroit sucks as well. i dont even like pinkerton or
blue anymore for some reason. anyone else lost respect for
this band or dislike them or am I one of the few who doesnt
like weezer? i dont like this kindof music anymore I
supposed but weezer just doesnt cut it anymore.

I agree somewhat. I like the first s/t and Pinkerton but
the green album is horrendously bad and Maladroit is not
much better. Plus the singer is such a pretentious asshole.

i like the blue album... but its the only album of thiers
ive heard

me and my friends were in a band together, and the
songwriters main influence was weezer

but apparetnly the singer is a MAJOR dick

he said he hates his fans, cause they all want something

fucker

Rivers(weezer singer)avoids playing most songs off of
pinkerton because the album didnt sell well. how could they
take 5 years to make green its absolutely like the worst
thing they could have came up with. if matt sharp(old
weezer bass player)stayed with them green and maladroit
would be quite different i think. the rentals are better
than weezer as are Ozma and the Impossibles. Return by the
Impossibles is what green should have been. I dont really
like this like emo sounding stuff but those other bands are
better than weezer. so if you like weezer check those out or
if you want something slightly better.

I love the blue album and pinkerton.

weezer was my fav. band for a long while

but after green album/maladroit (i have both), i have
totally lost all respect for the band they become. i still
like the first 2 tho, and will forever.

Most of the bands I enjoyed when I was a wee lad no longer
appeal to me for one reason or another. The only group from
my youth that I still love are the Chili Peppers. I was
ready for dissapointment upon my first listen to 'By the
Way'(their new album) but was instead bitch-slapped in the
face and knocked down the stairs. I honestly think it's
their best record, certainly one of the best albums I've
heard in the past two years. Lyrically as well as
musically, they've really got it together.

it's nice to see another Impossibles fan on this board.
they're one of my all time favorite bands (though i did like
anthology and 4 song brick bomb more than return)

ehm, what's so horrible about the green album then? I must
say i quite liked it. At the time of it's release i was
really caught by their "hash pipe" single... which, to me,
still contained all the classic weezer-trademarks, but it
also sounded exciting and new... i loved that song! None of
the other tracks were quite that good, but i still enjoyed
it lots :-)

By the Way is another good one by the RHCP, i agree. Even
though Anthony Kiedies has one of the worst singing voices
ever... but they've got john frusciante... what else can i
say? Possibly the best guitar-player alive today :-o

Anyone else here who LOVES his solo-album? (Niandra LaDes
and Usually Just A T-Shirt, that's what it's called). One of
my favourite albums of all time.

i haven't heard maladroit (except for a demo of 'take
control, which i liked) or the green album,

i have the 'buddy holly' though, and this is one of the
greatest pop/rock songs ever (and a v. cool video as
well).

that cd also has 'my name is jonas', 'surf wax america' and
'jamie' on. they all kick ass. so im not going to buy any
more weezer (cept maybe pinkerton) so that they don't ruin
my estimation of them...

2nd album bad?! and 3rd good? there isnt any way its
possible to like green more than pinkerton but whatever.

by the way by rhcp has to be the worst song of theirs i have
ever heard. its almost as bad as Green cd Weezer. maybe
the other songs on it are better but I hated that song first
time i heard it.

Anthony Kiedies has one of the worst singing voices ever?
What organs do you use to hear?
...
I do agree with you about John Frusciante however. His
genius is particularly evident on 'Don't Forget Me' off of
By the Way.. That's probably my favorite track on the
album. That and the Zephyr Song. Niandra LaDes and Usually
Just A T-Shirt is the name of his solo endeavor? I thought
it was something like, 'Recording Off of just Water for 6
Days'... Anyway, what does it sound like? Does he sing too
or is it entirely instrumental?

I still think Anthony can't sing! He was pretty good at
songs like "give it away", but on californication there were
already lots of songs where he tried to sing "proper"... and
he just can't do that! On the new one it is even worse. I
still think it's probably their best album, because of the
musical genius, but Anthony Kiedis really gets on my
nerves.

He hardly puts any emotion into his voice and he sings so
"flat" most of the time.

For instance "can't stop" is one of the most exciting
guitar-songs i heard in a long time, but Anthony's voice
over it just sounds so bored and uninterested :-/

The ending of that song (where he sings a capella) is just
embarrasing in my mind!

don't forget me is another brilliant example of John
Frusciante's talent :-) It sounds like he almost wrote this
entire album by himself! So many typical frusciante melodies
and guitarsolos.

"to record only water for 10 days" is already his third
solo-album. I still haven't heard it yet... but apparently
he uses lots of synthesizers instead of guitars. "Niandra
LaDes..." was his first solo-album (the 2nd one is very
rare, haven't been able to find it yet). It sounds very
confused and unfinished... i can see how many people think
it's just the ramblings of a heroin-addict (he made this
album in his "dark" years when he had left the RHCP), but
when you listen to it very often (like i did), you start to
see how it really is awesome! Sounds more inspired than most
of my other albums put together! There are some instrumental
tracks, but he also does lots of singing... totally out of
key, and VERY unsteady... but very emotional and well...
just moving i think (he sings MUCH better than Anthony ;-)
(
The song "dosed" sounds like it could have been on one of
his solo-albums. Only his solo stuff is much more abstract
and less acceptable.. you really have to take the time to
get into it (but it pays!)

if you like john's guitarplaying it's worth checking out!
From the top of my head i'd recommend the songs "as can be",
"your pussy's glued to a building on fire", "skin blues" &
"mascara".

The last 13 tracks on the album are just labeled: "1-13
untitled", so i'm not sure about those... some of those
untitled tracks are amazing as well.

also the song "curtains" almost makes me cry!!!!! But he
plays the piano instead of his guitar.

Just think... the RHCP made bloodsugarsexmagik... then john
left them and they made that horrible album with dave
navaro... and immediately after john rejoins the band they
release brilliant cd's like Californication and By The Way
again ;-)

If they listed all the credits properly, i bet we'd see that
John writes more than 80% of their songs!

yes but his guitar playing sounds the same on every rhcp
single (i dunno about the albums). that's cheap, imo.
there's no progress

You have a point there netlon...
but...
well...
i still can't get enough of it ;-)
I just want to hear as much of it as possible.

I suspect the other 3 chili-peppers also have something to
do with it. John is always talking about how he wants to
move forward, but the other 3 members seem to enjoy their
succes much more, and probably wanna stick to their winning
formula.

It would have been interesting if John would have been
playing in a somewhat underground and more experimental
band... but we'll never know what that would have sounded
like

I'll definately keep an eye peeled for Frusciante's solo
work.
I don't understand how you can find Kiedis's voice
uninspiring and dry though.. I mean, how the hell can you
enjoy their records but loathe his voice so much? And I
don't think he tried to make his voice sound more 'proper'
on their latter albums, I think it has naturally become more
sincere and refined with age. It sounded very sloppy and
whimsical on their earlier records.. I much prefer the
current style.

(back on the topic), i was really into blue and pinkerton
when they first came out...in fact, for a year i think they
were some of the few thinhs i ever listened to, but then
after pinkertone they broke up for some time and i think i
moved on musically, ye know?....so by the time they came
back with green, and now with maladroit i´m just far away
from listening to them. ALTHOUGH, everytime i pop up the
blue album i get real happy, it´s such a good record.

I used to like Weezer a lot. Then the waiting for their
third album let me move away from them a bit, then right
before it came out, it became the favorite band of the type
of people I don't like. I don't believe in boasting about
how you are a band's fan. How good they are is alright, but
that you are a fan, no. I just didn't want to be related to
the emo type kids, who in my eyes, I see crying their eyes
out when singing around the fire with acoustic guitars,
about their emotions.

The new green album sucking ass didn't help and so even
though I liked the older cds, I find it hard to listen to
them now.
One of kids I know who jocks the band did tell me how
Rivers went into depression because the second album didn't
sell as good. I don't want to say that I listen to a guy
who is a big pussy and has a weak ass emotional stability
like that. Fuck them for selling out.

okay "proper" was probably the wrong term. What i meant was
that he used to do more of a "rap-singing", kinda thing. But
on the last 2 albums his style has become more and more
melodic... almost no rapping anymore, and just plain
singing. And I just don't think he can do that. The RHCP
could be my favourite rockband in the world if they had a
different singer. But i guess it's just me that has this
problem with anthony ;-)

I remember when i just bought "californication" this
bothered me very much (just like now, when i have just
bought 'by the way'). After a couple of weeks i kinda get
used to it i guess. I still don't like his voice much, i
concentrate more on the music, and learn to accept his
voice. I must confess though that his lyrics are getting
much better lately!

And about weezer... i read in an interview that after
pinkerton their recordlabel had forgotten to dump them ;-)
They needed to make some financial cutbacks, and were
dumping lots of artists. But they forgot to dump Weezer :-p

So years later when Weezer called them to say: "hey we have
a new album ready", the recordcompany was really surprised
to learn the band was still signed to them (and happy i
should imagine, since the succes of the green album). I just
can't understand why all you guys hate it so much, i love
that album!

the green album was ok...
Butthe problem with that album is that after track 4 or 5
the songs starts to sound almost the same...
there are some b-sides out there that are 10 time better
then the 5 last songs on that album... have you heard
"teenage victory song"? i cant understand why they didnt
put it on the album... it could have been a new "buddy
holly". .

i have not heard those b-sides that you talk about... sounds
interesting! They should release a b-sides and rarities
compilation then :-p

The green album is only half an hour long anyway, it doesn't
even allow me enough time to get bored of it. And actually i
like the last couple of songs aswell. "knock-down drag-out"
sounds to me like a fresh start for the 2nd half of the
album (that song rocks!). And basically i like the next 3
songs as well... only the last track could have been better.

I do think there is something to be said for not just
putting crap leftovers from the album as b-sides on the
singles... why shouldn't a band record some extra
top-quality songs as b-sides? I don't really buy alot of
singles anymore, but it used to annoy the hell out of me
when there were a couple of weird tracks on there that were
obviously unuseable leftovers from the album.
