I like Tom Morello. it would be really interesting to get
into a studio with him.
bet he's got some real good ideas.

I thought the idea of combining politics with music was
naïve - most of the kids couldn't care less what the
message was.

didn't like them musically either. boring.

listened to them in years though, maybe ill go dig out their
albums, I think I heard a shot! YEAH! (as I sit in my
dressing gown in front of the comp wrapped in a blanket
sipping coacoa.)

The one thing about Rage is that they started everything
that you hear in "nu-metal" today, along with Faith No More.
So this is something to hold against them =oD

I LOVED Evil Empire... their debut was good, too. Hell,
their third was great, too.

Damn, I forgot how much I like that band! Used to love them
back in grade 10. Haven't listened to them in ages... Tom
Morello is pretty damn good.

RATM was rad, and for those who didn't bother to delve
intothe political intentions of the tunes, there was some
all around killer cross-platform musik going on there.
you had to be around when it was happening to fully
appreciate it's impact.
RATM minus zach teamed up w/chris cornell, of soundgarden
for an album.
it is recorded, and they aren't sure what they are going to
do, because once they left the studio, the four brokeup!
i think i'm on the wrong message board.
aside from taoist blockade, i think i'm one of the few who
likes to rawk out!

theyre decent but i dont know about this political music on
a major label. it kind of defeats the purpose of them even
talking about politics. theyre saying down with these
corporations and then theyre on sony. theyre contradicting.

I don't dsay they were communist, but they had some
communist, or, more accuraetely, "socialist" and anti
capitalist ideals.

what the hell is wrong with anti-capitalism?
capitalism is the devil!
the reason most people think RATM were all about communism
was the che guevera t-shirts and tom morrellos 'coomie'
hat.
if they had of bothered to read the lyriccs or listen to
them at least, they might have realised!

funny, i never got into rage but i love zack de la rocha's

yet as a band they were rarely creative.

btw that collab between morello and ATR is old man, look up
the atari teenage riot song "rage" - that's that. there's
also a remix with members of the arsonists.

There's nothing wrong with anti-capitalism, it's just most
people who preach about it are hypocrites, like Rage. How
can you be anti-capitalist and be signed to a major record
label? Have videos on MTV? A website? Unless you're out in
the forest wearing leaves and picking berries all day, you
support capitalists one way or another.

let me answer that question for them: by being on a major
they had a far greater platform for their views. it's a
necessary evil, a minor compromise to achieve the larger
goal of blowing minds.

"let me answer that question for them: by being on a major

goal of blowing minds. "

well not really, by rage being on major label they have to
give up some of their political beliefs. they have to
compromise on many of their beliefs or the major label
wouldnt be up for it f they said something that the label
didnt like. in truth being a a poltical band can only be
done on a indie label. it does reach less people but theres
no compromises that way.

MachineofGod has a good point. Recall the band Earth Crisis
which at one point in time were a part of the hardcore
scene. Later when they got a lot bigger and turned more or
less into a metal band they played shows sponsored by miller
genuine draft. Ironic because they were supposed to be a
X-edge band. Likewise, Zack used to be the frontman for a
X-edge band called Inside Out. Theres a lot of history in
that hardcore band even though they only put out one 7-inch.
members were related to gorilla biscuts, 108, and chain of
strength. While I do think RATM were important they were
definately marketable. perhaps they may been even more
extreme if fame had not sought them out or vice versa. I
always thought downset were a little better anyway. there
used to be a band called Race Traitor in chicago that really
took a liberal stance on ideas.

well if you knew anything about RATM and TOOL then you
wouldn't hae made that post.
both bands were picked up by their respective labels after
less than 10 gigs were played.
RATM was signed before they finished thei demo.
some of those tracks are on their first album.
that prompted the way they recorded their albums>live in teh
same room.
jazz style [tom moreelo's main influence]
getting back to the point>

the labels were attracted to the controversy both those
bands put forth.
RATM signed based on teh fact that they could write about
whatever they wanted.
the laberl had ansolutely no creative control.
many artists have exercised this right.
so RATM compromised absolutely nothing.
there was no conflict of interest.
they chose to accept based on the fact that this merger
would allow them to spread the word to millions as opposed
to a few thousand.
both parties prospered from this union as well.
RATM wa one of the highest grossing acts for over five
years.
they influenced much of what we hear today, adn they stayed
true to themselves and used the medium to communicate.
only an idiot would disagree.
and idiot or a troll.
and we know how to kill trolls!
fire and acid babee!
