Could Hollywood Crack Your PC?

This proposal is about to go before Congress. It
essentially allows the RIAA or MPAA to crack your PC and
disrupt p2p networks.

It doesn't specifically allow deletion of your shared files,
but if that occurred, seeking damages would be hard -
"Anyone whose computer was damaged in the process must
receive the permission of the U.S. attorney general before
filing a lawsuit, and a suit could be filed only if the
actual monetary loss was more than $250."

If you live in the USA and don't want this bill to pass, now
would be a good time to send your Congressperson an email.

Top hole. I'll become a hacker and when I get caught I'll
say I was trying to delete some MP3s of my tracks that
people have shared without my permission. Idiots.

They can dent our hardrives, but they can't dent the steel
of America's resolve.
