Yeah, it was really good compared to modern "pop".

I like a fair bit of 70s music too, the sugarhill gang, the
whispers etc.

When it was the 80's I didn't give a shit about people like
Prince, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Def
Leppard, Duran Duran, etc. But when I look at what we've got
now in pop music, i'd gladly go back to the good old days.
The 80's were great. Kids of this decade have it bad, when
they get to be in their mid 20's they are gonna get
nostalgic for Britney Spears, Korn Bizkit and N'Sync, I feel
sorry for them.

ecnadniarb from United Kingdom has it right:

80's pop music is the worst music ever created.

You'd feel different about it if you were around in the
80's.

Well then it's because you're British. :)

But most of the groups listed were British :)

I'm Canadian and feel the same way. :)

I don't look back fondly on 80's pop music at all and I was
there. I look back on early Metallica fondly because that's
the only good music I was exposed to.

80's made me laugh, they had a few good songs about but the
bad ones were soooooo bad !!

eg. two words......

Karma Chameleon

I was listening to And Justice For All this morning. This
fat fuck across the street from where I lived used to go
outside with his boombox, a lawnchair, some sunglasses and a
beverage and sit there and blast it.

I love 80's music... you guys are looking at it almost like
it's a genre... not all 80's music sucked, some of it was
good... but yes, some of it did suck so much!!

but I'm an 80's freak anyways... I love cheap 80's pop, for
some reason... it's much better then the pop of oday!!

Thats because the pop of today try to be street credible
where in the 80's the fools used to wear make up and sparkly
stuff.

most 80's chart pop music WAS and still IS absolute crap,
the only reason some of it sounds good is for the nostalgic
memories it throws up.

Finally someone who's with me in appreciating the goodness
of 80's music. And I agree with you about people trying to
make it a genre. It's pretty hard to dismiss an entire
DECADE of music.

I know....Depeche Mode were like all time favourite..but
them and the The Cure and The Smith and OMD..were a bit to
the leftfield..where there were oodles and oodles of
goodies...half my Industrial collection is composed of
those..Cabs...242..Skinny Puppy...Einsturzende Neubauten...I
was talking about right in the centre..I know..about the
crap that decade sprouted..which decade hasnt?...but that
70's seemed to be about manufactured jury built session
musician helmed disco units...much like the 00's...90's were
awash with angsty grunge murk..80's just seemed to have a
higher quotient of individuals and bands creating their own
popular music and then taking credit for it..
