maybe try removing the one u have now, so that there is no
avatar, and then try uploading it?

also, make sure it is not too large of a file. ;)

i had this problem months ago. it depends on what paint
program u use to alter the jpg file. it's a go if u use
paintshop pro and adobe(?). otherwise, choose raw (unaltered
by u) jpg's off the web.

try name.jpg instead of name.JPG
