whoa, I've just finished watching this film with my family. My sister didnt last the whole duration and my dad was just against it - he's annoying!
This was one amazing film, so many different parts, with so much to think about, not too obvious, and not cheesey at all!
A very well written film!!
What do you lot think about this film? What do you think the magnolia represents? why call it that?
I dont understand it all, maybe that's why its so goood!

I really enjoyed it... i'm too ill to say why
If you haven't, get the dvd and look at the deleted scenes... the stuff they cut out with tom cruise's character is funny as hell!

Awesome film. One of my latest tracks, Things I Know (Magnolia mix), uses a few sound bites from the movie.
I'm not sure what the signifigance of the magnolia is--I was wondering that a couple of nights ago. Only thing I could really think of was that it's a beautiful thing that's easily corrupted, maybe like life.

I liked it, it was like a puzzle, storylines crossing eachother, creating parallels....
Only the frog bit was a bit too strange, it could be a bit more subtle IMO

"the main underlying theme of Magnolia is the biblical adage about the "sins of the fathers." In the film the sons and daughters bear the burden of their fathers greed and avarice, and their only possible future happiness is in facing the past (in the figure of their father), and the effects that past has had on their lives." - taken from a film review

the frogs were there to add to the "only in a film would this happen" feeling, i think.

I didn't like the movie, it started off great I thought, then I totally lost interest. I didn't find any of the characters likeable, except the little kid who pissed his pants. When the frogs came down, that was the last straw.

i felt like steve did when I saw it in the theater. Exactly the same things I thought.
I watched it on DVD with a friend though, and when you just sit back and take it all in, it is mind boggling. Just enjoy it, i will never claim to understand most of it, but it is a well crafted film for sure.
P.T. Anderson (boogie nights, etc) is comming out with Punch Drunk Love soon, got rave reviews at Canes, so watch out for that.
