possible, future, power outage

the weatherman has put me in an angry red bubble of "power
outage probability," but at least it's not purple -- the
next rung up in his scale.

the utility company has sent me multiple texts when they
usually, like... never send me shit? even if i forget to pay
the bill for a week 'cos i'm a space cadet?

i've no sense my power is definitely going to go out.
more that the authority nozzle is going: um, hey bub...
yeah, about power lines

[pro tip: live near some bit of critical infrastructure,
like a hospital or a train station or whatever. then, your
power can go out like anyone else's, but it will be
fixed faster]

wish me luck

yes, im surrounded by hospitals
but its good to know where the candles are.
maybe a flashlight, hell maybe even some bottled drinks.

theres a movie about the terrors of a power out in the
public airing, proclaiming panic, death and end of times.
ok, a wide outage (not a block getting turned down for a few
min) sure aint fun, but its not the end of the world.

be careful though with that foot of yours and get well soon!

in general, i'll hear loud thonks when loads of melting snow
slides off the roof in a sheet. i don't usually hear this
while it's still snowing

...and, yyyeah, that's some heavy snow. it's going to keep
going. and going. as the temp drops. then absurd wind sets
in. i can see why they were saying what they said.

the authority nozzle wants you to be terrified of a power
out, because without power, the nozzle has no authority.

DOPE_CHART ~ while current days are very much "i hate
this timeline" it has its moments, like, this is a cool
dashboard to have and they've done a good job of building
it.

it's my theory that the jungian collective unconscious is
physically located in the far northwest of massachusetts,
where no one ever actually goes. here you will find
things like "Florida, Massachusetts" that only make sense in
a dream-logic sort of way

LAZY_TITLE

...but, yeah, 100% power outage in Florida

fine here so far

pretty much the power outages are aligning with the places
that got clobbered with the most snow during the earlier
leg. those that missed the boat there, seem good so far

it's been a pretty storm to watch on the radar. it swoops
in, does a loop-the-loop, then should swoop out. the tail
end of the loop pushing in colder air and lots of wind

I'm absolutely loving this weather here in dead center
california.

Some people got it pretty bad a few months ago-- Gilroy
(major garlic producer for the whole US) had some really bad
flooding. Seems moderate this go round.

I love rain though, the state really needed it.

hows the foot?

bloody irritating. healing. but everything takes forever.
probably my least favorite is waking up, really having to
pee, and then having to get the boot on with precise pad
placing, multiple straps, pumping, then a shoe, and once or
twice i barely made it. hate it

then i can't walk, watching my leg atrophy, boot cuts off
the circulation in my toes and they're brused-y, the
insurance company being quiet about "you may randomly owe
$500 to the ER after your $150 copay" and i don't care if
the neighbors heard me screaming after that one, because i
felt much better afterwards. like i'd just taken a dump

that, gosh, heck. one of my kind of, first, early...
proto-strange bastard... posts... was about, like, putting
your socks on properly. and how i could literally be sitting
at a meeting at work and i'd be having trouble focusing on
some bloke's powerpoint because i notice my sock is on
wrong. and my sock is on wrong. pay attention to... my sock
is on wrong

so, kind of reactionary, getting my sock on properly in the
morning becomes a very focused and defined thing. it's
remained such and it hasn't been a hassle since i was like
27

in this context... the boot. pads, four straps. a broken,
healing foot. a pumping mechanism capable of an analog
pressure curve, actually sculpted by the straps...

if it makes any sense, i can actually get lost in, like,
constructing... an instance of wearing the boot? that i find
it very satisfying and meditative, really, and i can do it
in complete darkness at this point. in fact, visual input is
largely distracting at this point

but all that goes out the window when i have to pee
now after sleeping for nine hours next to a cluster
of empty water bottles. at that point, i do a very sloppy
job of strapping it on

mum had some foot problem, and the foot doctor -- top notch
guy, it sounds -- just did some intricate weaving of medical
tape on her foot and said, "does that feel better?" and
answer was, "wow yes, that's amazing. please show me how to
do that"

and reply was a laugh, and, "you'd need to go through
medical school and then a few years of practice on top of
that, sorry"

the doc can't feel inside the patient's foot -- barring
black mirror becoming reality, anyways. so i think he was
more thinking from his own perspective -- it would take med
school and a few years of hands-on ~in addition~ before you
could... wrap a stranger's foot that deliberately.

the difficult patient -- me -- acknowledges that i haven't
been through medical school. that medicine is worse than
computer shit, particularly the lingo, the terminology. but
really, the details; that i do not have.

if you split the difference ~ i've never spent so much
meditative focus on my foot before. i'm starting to
visualize it in a way i really haven't before. that i'm
starting to feel like i could wrap my own foot as well as he
could do it for me, for a good number of arbitrary foot
ailments. but not for every darn thing, and i would refuse
to even try on someone else [because i can't be sure i'm
doing it proper (because i can't feel what i'm doing)]

i miss DADONCK. remember my absurd "slick shoes" idea? i
have some more specific sensor ideas about feet now

I bet you could be a competent nuclear engineer in 2-3 years
under an apprenticeship. The notion that you have to be a
medical school trained doc to wrap your foot is ridiculous.

Tony, that guy does have a lot of things concluded. I like
his foot massage music, but something about his voice
bothers the hell outta me, hopefully I can move past the
hating on Brad.

its stupid, everyone can learn how to do proper bandages in
less than an hour, without causing harm or a thrombus and
that is a faaar fetched risk. bet its about insurance
issues. hospitals shouldnt be busineses.
