lol good luck bro

bet you're already thinking how to explain why you skip to
Windows 14 like it's natural and logical instead of
PR/psychological

the "oh ok" pleb line, the nonsense, is that microsoft is in
deep with PC OEMs and they need a new windows version so
everyone buys new computers

the real truth is that what's coming down the pipeline is
the OS and the OEM owning all your data. apple is
essentially already there; iCloud ain't yours at all. apple
ain't bad but

...microsoft has seen this and wants in, and the only reason
windows 11 exists -- with the insane new hardware
requirements -- is a bunch of new chips that lock down
everything. and that's why you need to sign up for a
microsoft account, they want all your shit in the microCrap
cloud because hay apple is $$ off this

my biggest concern in all of this is that arturia's software
is shit and if they don't support linux by the time
microsoft throws some levers to make win10 unusable, i will
either have to sell the keystep -- kind of like cutting off
my foot to escape a leg shackle -- or hack the crap out of
it and somehow manage to at least be able to change the
settings you cannot fucking change without a computer. or
hope someone else hacks it for me

i mean, they are in deep with the OEMs, who need a new
windows version so everyone buys computers; it's true. but
everyone's joked about that for 20 years and so it's a
convenient smokescreen

Since I'm bloviating on the future

The NSA has massive data centers in the desert that have
quietly been slurping absolutely all the traffic on the
internet that they can handle storing. It's mostly encrypted
and they can't read any of it. For now

Probably in around ten years, quantum computers will no
longer be a joke, and they will then be able to go back and
decrypt anything they choose. the only fig leaf you have
left then is that there's so much of they actually have to
go back and decide and look at something. But if you put,
say, Donald Trump in charge of this trove, things could go
quite badly for the world

But a part of me is like: This is interesting, this will be
interesting. And hopefully, even if this does kill
civilization, there will be a brief and glorious moment
where china hacks the nsa and uses their shit to crack
microsoft's whole universe and we'll have our computers back
for a few days or hours before... oh, hell, throw a rock and
you'll hit it
