my first mixer was a very early 00's behringer. it was from the dark old days when things were really spotty, and, well... i still have it, but it does more scratching than mixing. it was cheap, it got me started, many years where any music i listened to, went through that. but did not leave me wanting more i did not buy a single other behringer thing until the model D -- and, well, it obviously looks chintzy compared to an actual moog, but it's fine to use. i haven't had to update the firmware or some shit; it's only hung once. sounds perfectly usable. alright, alright, this is actually a good value the ms-1; harder call. i had a real sh-101 for years, and the thing still shows up in dreams sometimes. i thot: unlike the model d, i know the sh-101. it will bother me to have it all plastic one day, however -- off in a daydream; imagining subtractive synthesis in my hed... and i lose focus when trying to move sustain; whops. then i realize i've used cutoff and res from the moog grandmother with... what is that? what? like the way a dream will grab stuff, i just grabbed the ADSR from the sh-101. like eight years since i used it and it's still that soaked into my brain so i ordered one. i have some minor gripes, but, overall, there is nothing seriously wrong about it. even feels less plastic-y than the real sh-101. i loved that synth very much; selling it was like putting a pet down. now i have a totally tricked-out one -- in red -- for $300. would never buy their keystep knockoff -- i have the arturia, thx -- but the ms-1, i think i am actually now slightly a bit of a behringer fan? i guess i would be pretty mad at behringer if i had a significant chunk of my net worth invested in vintage gear; lulz. but if not them, someone else would |
