47 years sucking the government's dick.
No, wait.
He was the dick.

it is time to stop waiting for some single moment of
watershed victory; accept that the system will, at best, be
dragged kicking and screaming in the right direction. it
will be thankless, and it will take a while. but, already, i
have to say, feel a bit less down and paranoid now that
trump's gone

the system returns to equilibrium, with a leader who knows
how to whisper the quiet part instead of yelling it at
rallies

"how could one fuckface dominate the news for 4 years
entirely?"

To be fair, that's not his fault. If the media wanted to go
"Ugggh, oh no, look what he's said now, something about
babies in cages from Yemen. Behind a wall. And now he's said
something indelicate about the Qashqai people. OH GOD!
"
for 4 years straight, that's up to them.

It's interesting, I watched that very stupid Netflix
"documentary" about the horrors of social networks, which is
worth watching just for the chills you get watching
supposedly reformed Facebook etc. employees talking very
stupidly about the business. There's a tremendously
revealing moment when one of these idiots says "but what are
the companies supposed to do? Make less profit, and get sued
by the shareholders?!"

And this, I think, is the crux of the matter, why social
networks will always, always opt to make more profit at the
expense of anything else, and why news networks will run
something about Melania brushing away Donald's hand as they
walk down an aisle somewhere, rather than anything more
substantial: they appear to have no choice.

Do YOU want to be the one to post poor quarterly profits
because you didn't lead with Orange Man Headlines? Of course
not.

It'll just be interesting to see the fawning coverage over
whatever mediocre, hackneyed "come together" message Biden
repeatedly gives out over the next 4 interminable years,
whilst bombing some butt-fuck country bordering Russia.

Pretty sure Donald tweeting in exile from the gold toilet
seat at the Mar-a-lago winter palace is going to generate
more clicks and revenue than ol' corpsey Joe making foreign
hamburger meat.

I became acutely aware of the power of suggestion, massively
amplified through social media (bearing in mind I only have
a lightly brushed passing with "all the Socials". I am more
likely to come here than Facebook) during COVID, then BLM,
when people seemed to FINALLY LOSE THEIR MINDS. If one
follows "this shit" closely, and invests personally in it,
it's BAD. It's all horribly scripted by the least capable
bird that works in your HR dept., desperately trying to
create work for themselves and justify their role.

I am so tired. So very tired.

offline Tony Danza from Fabulous Hollywood on 2020-11-10 17:34 [#02606804]

It's structural and systemic, if only we could get rid of
the bad actors like your bird in HR and that would fix
things. IF ONLY.

The social networks and news are full of useless
uninformative sputtering outrage for the same reason that
processed food is full of fat and carbs. Outrage is the fat
and carbs of the psychosphere.

how can you say its not his fault the media fell for his
populist politics and nonsense persona. its been the name of
the game over and over and increased immensely in the past
decade. id be very surprised if he wasnt playing that
deliberately.

I agree, but the media didn't have to overreact to
every single thing he said and did. He was playing them, he
likes being in the news, he likes being attacked so he can
say "See, the establishment's against me".

Well, he's gone now. If the media can bear to tear
themselves away from his orange teat.

Probably no one in "the media" aside from Trump is more
responsible than Mark Burnett, the producer of The
Apprentice, who created the illusion of Trump as a savvy,
competent executive.

And I say "aside from Trump" because it's silly to consider
Trump apart from the media at all. He's fully a performer, a
creature and creation of the screen, who's now thrashing and
flailing, not quite comprehending on an emotional level why
a producer is not stepping in to save him and make him look
good with edits and narrative tweaks.

Five trillion ballots to steal this election from Donald
Trump.
