ooh shit there's loads... been playing this a lot
lately. i'll bump this as and when i get one stuck in my
head... are you after straight 4/4 like 97 speed garage era
or is a bit of later 2step allowed too?

yeah sounds like yr after the 98-01 sound with more skippy,
less pumping drums. i love all this stuff, good example i
think i've posted before but it bears repeating

yes THATS what i'm on about.. do you know of anything just
like that only with tighter kicks and less cymbal crashes ?

nah was too young, i got a muzik magazine speed garage cd
back in 97 and rinsed the fucker though. i didn't like all
the smooth mj cole style stuff at the time but i can
appreciate it now. tbh i think i'd have felt out of place at
garage nights, was all about getting dressed up and popping
off the champagne, i liked dubstep nights a bit later on

re: tight drums, ghost / groove chronicles might do ya

i don't think i went to any specific garage nights either
(that i remember)... i love how slinky/nice some of the trax
and imagine they were decent vibes..
ive switched up to some jungle now, bookmarked
what is "speed garage"? is that a thing? sounds interesting

it's like a faster version of US housey garage with dark,
warping bass and a uk vibe... hard to describe but you know
when you hear it. tracks like double 99 - RIP groove and
judy cheeks - reach and spin

I mainly grew up playing rave sets and followed it into DNB,
but used to play a few garage sets with a mate here and
there. Was never really fully into the UK 2 step thing
though and most garage stuff to me was considered US house
like Masters at Work and Todd Terry.

Used to love all Todd Edwards stuff too

i love the liccle clave (?) type sounds, like little message
alert noises, like in that Mis-Teeq track

there's a bit in 'Style Wars' where they're on about the
liccle bubbles on the writing ... i can't remember what he
calls it now, it's like that but spectrum-wise

I wanna post that pic of Johnny Depp passed out in the
corner of his room but i can't be bothered and it would seem
a bit cruel

that "action" tune is by stanton warriors i think, it's
listed as being them on this classic breaks /
garage mix. not heard the other track though, cheers steve!

loved this stuff when it hit the discotheque. closest thing
to idm and so much more interesting to me than the typical
house and techno parties. it had the broken beats and stabby
rave remnants :) but then most of the songs were ruined by
corny vocals, i kind of had to take as a compromise at that
time.
now with all (ALL) radio rotation music being full of whiny
vocals i dont feel like going back to 2step. its just too
smooth for me.
its decent though, just not mine.
