there used to be a wimpy on salford precinct but it closed a
few years ago. not surprised really. i remember going to one
in warrington as a treat when i was little and having a
knickerbocker glory. which was exciting and is pretty hard
to fuck up, but wimpy managed it. horrid it was

link doesn’t become a trend. I know you struggle with
links, Umbroman! I guess you gave up altogether!

that's neighbours a lunch time Australian soap opera that's
been show in the UK since the mid 80s its really popular
here for some inexplicable reason

there is actual motivation behind my guff. squidge in the
fridge is silly and fun; there's not much terribly technical
about it. i am certainly into it when he gets more
technical, but i do miss the whimsical feeling his stuff
used to have. best advice i could give the man himself is:
you have a wonderful sense of humor and a great ear, and i
think a good many love it when you have a goof.

the increase on the technical end is respectable but you're
walking down an increasingly narrow corridor

but it's you're tunes and you've done so much already i
won't think much of it if you ignore me entirely

squidge in the fridge has a great pad sound if I remember
already

never mind the pads. i always remember an acid line that
makes me giggle flat-out

This was probably made with his ST and some fairly cheap
synths, its unbelievable

beautiful in that track though

the man always said "you can make great music on shit gear"
and perhaps, with good gear, it's so distracting you're not
obligated to squeeze the same greatness out of it. you
simply have so many options -- particularly as someone who
deeply understands this shit -- that the focus becomes
technical rather than human

yes this is something I definitely agree with, I always
think of that youtube video add with the deadmous5 guy and
he says cardinal sins of EDM or something and you can see he
has massive modular synths in the background, and I thinking
well he is never going to be Vangelis is he

I think aphex is one of the few who can utilise all the gear
he has, I just worry if it takes up too much time to make
tracks, cos he used to have a busy release schedule in the
early 90s, I reckon its probably down to age or he has made
a nest egg he is just making music for his own edification

deadmau5 is on a decent track, but one i don't really see as
relevant to this discussion. he uploaded some music video in
which he's build his entire multi-million dolla housing
complex into a VR model and interspersed all sorts of derpy
shit all over his property, culminating with him asleep in
the studio, implying all this silly bullshit was inspired by
a dream one day. it has that sense of whimsy i am after,
but, jeez, he do feel rather commercial and glossy, even
still.

but the fundamental concept of it all -- you go into
VR Chat and there is deadmau5 all over, and, well,
afx, sorry dude, but you're gradually being replaced

LAZY_TITLE

always prefer afx for the mfx, but i have this nagging
feeling that, conceptually, he has been undercut because
he's still off in the 80s

it was quite squidgy and I couldn't think of an adequate
reply yet

deadmou5 is definitely more culturally relevant but its only
cos he stuck a mouse on his head

no, it's not squidgy

this is not hugely squidgy either but it does satisfy me
when i'm in that sorta mood ~ LAZY_TITLE

i wound up hanging out on an IRC channel for "Overclockers
Australia" because they were the only people awake at 5am
and fun to talk with when i was on summer break in high
school and staying awake all night. it would still be a few
years yet before i tried any drug other than caffeine, i
should note

in any case, this guy was on there, reminds me a lot of
jnasato actually, and he was all into IMPULSE TRACKER and
he's sending me "bliss" and "on me" and years later i just
had these two tracks some guy sent me on IRC and turns out
he has the album on his website and he moved from AU to US
and works for pixar now.

i actually think this dude an jnasato would hardcore hit it
off.
