Your most controversial IDM opinion

Best Autechre album: Amber.

i don't think there's really a need to listen to anything
outside of the artificial intelligence series

I agree!

Also: Confield is Autechre's worst album.

Confield's my favourite. Pen Expers especially. I'm not a
massive Autechre fan though. They are fucking talented with
machines though, wish they'd drop MAX/MSP and go analogue.

Aphex Twin is a Black Briton named Tahnaiya Russel, who
hired the actor Richard D. James to play frontman for her
music because the record labels refused to sign a woman of
color making electronic music.

Autechre are gay lovers and Mira Calix is Rob's drag
persona.

zilty peeps love Confield, always going on about it (at
least in the past). Hence the controversial opinion.

Absolutely 100%.

Just as Roger is wrong on Brexit, he's also wrong on
Autechre. According to my studies on the listening patterns
of Autechre fans over the past 90 days[1],
Amber is actually Autechre's most popular album. In
fact, Autechre's first three albums are the overwhelming
favorites among listeners, and no post-2000 track is present
in their top 19 compositions ("Altibzz" from 2008's
Quaristice ranks as number 20). Among the top 50 most
listened Autechre tracks of the past 90 days, only 8 were
released after the year 2000: 5 from Confield, 1 from
Quaristice, and 2 from Exai. All in all,
Autechre's earlier works remain vastly more popular than
their later material.

it would be nice if aphex twin tried to learn a little more
actual music instead of buying increasingly expensive
gadgets

he's lost his earnest bedroomness appeal in the mid-90s and
now he's just a bit of a noodling bore who still hasn't
learned what a chord is

1. The leather used for the Anolord binder isn't good
quality; barely even developing an attractive patina with
age.

2. The whole of what we call "IDM" was merely a prelude to
the Warp signing of Born Ruffians.

A really interesting and spicy hot take! I do wish you'd
expand on that, I'm not looking to fight about it, I'm
genuinely intrigued.

I think it's been done to death and it creates the musical
equivalent of "grey goo" in most cases. But if you start
with the right source file and get the settings just right
you can create a living pulsing shimmering thing.

I could go either way here. Even the guys who are masters of
the technique aren't doing anything interesting with it
anymore.

Maybe it's too lazy, it's like sonic drooling.

Aphex Twin (Tahnaiya Russel) released dozens, possibly
hundreds of tracks on various compilations in the '90s under
various pseudonyms, only a handful of which have ever been
discovered

Global Goon, believing Richard D. James to be Aphex Twin,
paid him to produce all the Global Goon albums, which are
the only true productions of Richard D. James that have been
commercially released. The one exception is Vatican
Nites
, for which Richard D. James, upon being paid by
Global Goon, subsequently paid Tahnaiya Russel to produce.
(The sum paid by Richard D. James to Tahnaiya Russel was
considerably less than that paid by Global Goon to Richard
D. James.)
