and then you hear them and realise they’re still
amazing.

Prodigy - Full Throttle just came on for me on random and I
haven’t heard it for maybe 10-15 years and it just blew me
away how good it still is, all those interlocking parts,
wonderful work.

What about you?

Autechre - drane (from 94-5 but released later) always
manages to blow me away. Kraftwerk, certain Yes tracks,
Bowie, drexciya... there’s a lot of stuff I put aside for
a while but that I never grow old of and always go back to.
Autechre is good for that, a track like Rae will never get
old for me.

Skyline and break and enter are two prodigy songs that feel
timeless to me.

That ultradyne tangible remix! Never loses that
effect on me.

I think you could make an argument that the first 3 prodigy
albums are one of the best 3 album streaks in electronic
music.

LP5, confield & draft
Exit planet dust, dig your own hole, surrender
Blue lines, protection, mezzanine
Post, homogenic, vespertine

Would be other contenders for me

That Bjork streak is hard to beat, but

Surfer Rosa
Doolittle
Bossanova

Bossanova doesn't get nearly enough respect, it has one of
their best songs ever:

The Happening

agreed with the björkage... how about tom waits, with
swordfishtrombones, rain dogs and frank's wild years?

Side 1 of Trompe le Monde is unbeatable, building to one of
their best three-song sequences, Palace of the Brine, Letter
to Memphis, and Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons. And even
though it sags a little on side 2 it has one of my favorites
- Motorway to Roswell, a sequel of sorts to The Happening.

I can listen to Surfer Rosa anytime. I know everyone loves
Doolittle but for some reason it's the one album I return to
least. I acknowledge it's great and hugely influential, I
just admire it from a distance.

LAZY_TITLE don't forget the purple tape outtakes, years
ago I burnt a cd with sufer rosa, come on pilgrim and the
purple tape all together, was great

The last song on Trompe le Monde, The Navajo Know, makes me
wistful for where I thought the Pixies were headed,... I've
not been able to listen to any of the comeback material,
(which is probably 20 years old itself now)... But yes,
Bossanova and Tromp le Monde are as brilliant as any of
their material.

Baily's Walk is a great song which I haven't heard for
ages
.

in 2004 I saw the pixies at Trafford cricket ground, just
after the stereophonics came on so we all left immediately,
all their rugby type dickhead fans were throwing drinks on
the people leaving,

One of the advantages of being old is that I saw the Pixies
multiple times in their imperial pomp at the Town & Country
Club, Kilburn Palace, then on and up to Brixton Academy and
I think culminating, for me, at Crystal Palace bowl when
Bossanova came out. They were supported by the Jesus and
Mary Chain (who of course they do a cover of with "Head On")
... I've still got the ticket stubs if anyone wants a fight
about it.

Great days. Never to be repeated.

It's all shit now.
