flacs are from bleep

they are audio files with lossless compression, basically as
good as wav files but take up a bit less space on your
devices

offline DADONCK from here on 2019-10-14 22:08 [#02587538]

yes, i know. its just that phtex for example has weird
clicks sound in the beginning. maybe you just can't hear
them with lower bitrate

oh yeah sorry I didn't read properly, i'll check now

like crackles, yeah my guess is that the artefacts of the
equipment, signal interference used to record, and you can
only detect them on the higher bitrate, but I cant be sure

my 320 mp3 has a few tiny clicks at the start of pthex but
they're barely noticeable, just sounds like a bit of kit
being used but with nothing being played on it yet. same
thing is more noticeable around 2:40

its surprising how relatively noise free Richard's tracks
are considering the mountains of equipment he uses on his
newer stuff, but yeah good ears you two I didn't notice it

You should read the syrobonkers interview again

offline mermaidman on 2019-10-14 22:26 [#02587548]

if u can hear the clicks at the beginning it means you're a
gay

offline umbroman3 from United Kingdom on 2019-10-14 22:26 [#02587549]
Points: 6096 Status: Regular

He mentions the noise from all his synths and talks about
gating to mask the noise.

offline mermaidman on 2019-10-14 22:27 [#02587550]
Points: 7991 Status: Lurker

roger wilco for eexample can't listen to phtez because the
clicks are so loud to him that the first time he listened to
hit he lossed his hearing for a week

offline mermaidman on 2019-10-14 22:29 [#02587551]

but u mere regular gays shouldn't be afraid of dat cause u
can't reach that level of gay anyway

abundance also has some clickety clicks in the first 5
seconds. very noticeable with a flac player and good
headphones

"When you have 64+ channels of vintage equipment as was the
case in some of the tracks especially track2, there is A LOT
of noise generated, I used A LOT of noise gates, my fave
being some EMT ones which are like LPF/gate hybrids, they
have that lush LPF roll off rather than a volume fade, very
sexual.to my eears
But I use several different types,
none of the tracks on syro were multi tracked into the
computer , they were all recorded live to 2 track, which is
kinda insane but the way i like it."

it all makes sense now

offline DADONCK from here on 2019-10-14 22:40 [#02587554]
Points: 3417 Status: Regular

also mentioning that he records on 2 track. i always thought
so, i should have read that interview more thoroughly

he once said in an interview, that someone wanted his
multitrax but he couldn't give them to him, because its not
how he works. but he was working on it :)

thanks for the pointer umbro!!!!

mad how he records straight down to 2 track

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2019-10-15 01:51 [#02587558]
Points: 23981 Status: Addict

oh, i don't think so. if you dump 64 synths to multitrack
then you have 64 dimensions of driving yourself insane. just
record to stereo; knowing you can't clean it up later will
make you do it properly the first time around

honestly i found editing multitrack much more infuriating
than just doing it over and over until i had it perfect, or
at least mostly

offline Hyperflake from Wirral (United Kingdom) on 2019-10-15 03:01 [#02587567]
Points: 30707 Status: Regular | Followup to EpicMegatrax: #02587558

yeah its a good approach, I wouldn't like to mess around
with loads and loads of tracks, I guess he is happy to
never has his music remixed by the ministry of sound when he
is dead

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2019-10-15 04:23 [#02587586]

what, like it's some sort of artistic defense? i don't see
that

it's more like ~ take have butch vig or whatever, with a
neve and 64 automated tracks, and 2^N of those are
compulsively edited after picking the best of five takes.
rock, alt-rock, whatever genre his band garbage is, yeah,
sure, that's how you do it. electronic is more, "let's
create a modular abomination for a laugh" and it's not that
you're all up in arms about (not) being that 64 channel neve
guy, so much as that it's completely fucking irrelevant to
how you do in the first place

summary: hey, yeah, i patched up sixteen thousand shit into
a modular mass that's, like, kinda sixteen synths. fuck you
if you want multitrack

mermaidman plays with his peepehole and thinks its music
also have you noticed? im getting some mildly gayish vibes
in The Undertones of his comments

i really think he shouldn't waste his top talent on xltronic
and star in a show like spongebob squarepants or something

Got the Human League into advise her
Now he's making lots of noise
Playing along with the art school boys
Girls try to attract his attention
But what a shame it's in vain total rejection
He will never be left on the shelf
