one day i found myself contemplating the power of movies to manipulate emotions. it made emotions feels so plastic. i can still get into movies, but there is a sort of inflection point where i'm more dissecting that watching: how is this film trying to manipulate my emotions? fending it off, almost this was in 2009. i'd just seen avatar in 3D, and then i promptly watched gary busey's "bulletproof." it's such a terrible movie; i was just tearing it up in my hed the whole way. they get to the part of the movie with the tank, and i realize: the internal tank shots are all filmed on some set, inside a mockup, and the external tank shots are off in a field, somewhere far away. you could just swap it out with bits from another movie, like a compatible part... |

i´ve always found movies highly immersive, partly because i really want them to be. even watching lots of making ofs cant easily take me out. its usually the music and vocal acting that makes it impossible to break out of the emotions. i sincerely expect the work im watching to be genuine and good, not questioning or dissecting it too much. well, unless its the usual romantic comedy blockbuster. and i cannot say the same for seriess though. |

this is going to sound more snarky than i intend but: the trick is to watch good movies. those that try to work with the artifice instead oh hiding it away. |

are you insane?! im not going out, god knows what waits out there gf´s colleague recently got attacked by a butterfly... (yes she actually claimed that, no kidding) parody aside im glad i was able to spend some time in our yard today and since we moved in together about two months ago we havent set up the t.v. set yet. life on the balcony is too sweet and i still cant believe we actually got this flat... |
