Do u think going in a submarine for a few hours would help
me get over my phobia of the sea?

it wasn't until i saw all the comments there (many of which
are hilarious, btw?) that i realized this was a cilantro
moment: either "wow yes" or "ffffuuu nuuuu." for the record,
i hate cilantro

anyways, my initial reaction was: that sounds awesome.
growing up, i tried violin, soccer, tae kwon doe, and more.
swimming was the only thing that stuck, because i really
like it. i've always loved diving down as far as i can, and
staying there for a moment, just because... i dunno, it's
like stepping into another world for a bit. the floatyness
feels nice. the surface, from below, looks like a mirror.
you can see quite well under the water, because that's where
our eyes evolved. sound carries weird

it wouldn't be quite as enveloping as swimming, but piloting
a sub, i would feel like i was in a space ship surveying
some alien planet. and you're not moving very fast; seems
relaxing as long as you keep an eye on where you're going

but, it's easier just to go swimming. i've thought about
trying scuba diving, but that's also too much gear; too much
training. perhaps steve-o could teach me someday

i want my submarine to be powered by hydroponics, because
the energy is green.

surely a hovercraft or some sort of ex soviet ground effect
vehicle is the way to go, they seem more practical than a
submarine

i built a hovercraft once, as a lad. difficult as shit.
glued-up balsa wood and some cut-up plastic sheeting; a
tether for power. pitiful anus out back to give it a bit of
forward thrust. it hovered and moved; barely. i was never
into messing with diesel engines and my pursuit of
hovercraft technology effectively ended there

the weight vs. lift thing is what drives all the great
hovercraft designers over the edge, like that submarine guy

I don't know why but I laughed at that
