saw the crystal method about 2 or 3 weeks ago, attending two fingers (amon tobin alias) at the end of july. hoping to fit more shows in this summer if anything comes around that i like; hell, i think last electronic show i went to before that was autechre a few years back |

bush was headlining, chevelle was co-headlining, and "filter" featuring richard patrick formed whatever's below that -- so that makes it electronic, ok? bush was professional. obviously played machine head. i obviously hung out at the bar. chevelle, the two friends i went with notice people crowd surfing and discuss joining. my response is, "oh, go on, i'd just fuck it up and lose my glasses" and i still believe that is exactly what would have happened if i'd tried. they'll manage it, though. they do, though i think there were some small lacerations and bruises then it's filter's turn. richard patrick gets up with his band, a power guitar, and a power drill. he says, "hey, boston! have you ever seen this before?" and puts his power drill on his power guitar for some power drones. i think: "why, yes, richard, i have. this guy i chatted with on ICQ ten years ago was the first person i heard do that, and i've since discovered that lots of other people have done it way earlier than that." heck -- last week, i found out that dave navarrao used a vibrator on his guitar for some of the tracks on "one hot minute." he plays a number of songs i don't remember -- i was somewhat drunk, by now -- then his version of "trip like i do," and of course, "hey man nice shot." then, to my horror, he showed up down the end of the bar a few minutes later. he was being all "i'm richard patrick, isn't that cool?" and some people were into it, and some people were clearly not. he crept closer and closer, and i prayed he wouldn't actually reach me and attempt to communicate. "was the power drill cool or what?" he'd say. then i'd throw my drink in his face mercifully, he acquired enough fan attention that his rate of travel down the bar dwindled, and stopped. then my buddies returned from the merch table and we made a hasty exit |

no, no, the photo was right after that concert. it's timestamped Sun 16 Oct 2011 03∶37∶36 AM EDT, and buchevilter played Boston Oct 15, 2011. those just looked like andrew's legs, and i don't think andrew was with us for that? but perhaps it was the other guy's legs; i didn't exactly keep detailed records but, yes, shut up epicmegatrax! you told a decent story! the photo was funny! stop trying to be accurate i'll just see myself out for the night. |

I honestly don't remember. Something at the Mutek or Elektra festivals, something so abstract it almost didn't exist, and all I could focus on was the austere concrete floor the audience was invited to sit or stand on and suffer. Maybe that pain was the real art, and the sound and visuals were a decoy. |
