To block a vote on the law, Oregon’s Republican senators have fled the state — most of them to Idaho. In response, governor Brown has ordered the state police to arrest any of them they can find and drag them back to the capitol so they can do their sworn duty. That has led to a potentially dangerous escalation of the conflict, with one senator — Brian Boquist — issuing a statement saying that the police should only “send bachelors and come heavily armed. i think many people have had a moment of idle fantasizing: oh, jeez, if zombies attacked, i could build a cool fort and hunt for supplies and i wouldn't have to work before. sometimes, i think, "oh, maybe a nuke will hit the east coast, and i won't have to go to work tomorrow." then, i wise up, and think: "no, i'm not that lucky. no bomb will fall. i will have to get up tomorrow and deal with things." i feel like there's always been a post-apocalyptic fetish with the american conservative sorts. building bunkers, stockpiling guns, six months of supplies, charcoal filters so to have their fucking elected representatives do this is like some unholy spank fantasy where you're crying and cumming at the same time |
