who the heck made my tv

i recently purchased a dirt-cheap 43" (42.5", actually)
$250 4K TV and it is "Onn" brand. for what i paid, i
honestly was not expecting much. it is fine, ok. no problems
so far. if it dies in two years, well, i still got my
nickel's worth.

yesterday, i bought some USB sticks from the same place
(walmart) and they were also Onn brand (as opposed to Offf
brand?). i got curious, today: what is this company?
chinese?

it turns out, an answer is hard to come by. Onn apparently
used to be sold by British chain ASDA and manufactured by
Schneider Electric, a german company... but ASDA went out of
business and I also see answers involving "Corion USA" (no
wikipedia entry) and subcontracting out to unnamed chinese
shops.

Wikipedia -- the first place I looked -- has no entry for
Onn. Maybe, if I can figure it out, I can make my first new
wikipedia fing.

I figure I should dig out the manual and see if they even
have a web site

the manuals do not list a web site. that blows my mind; TVs
and USB sticks for sale and you don't even have a web site.

heck, i can't even find a physical address. the most i found
was this, at the end of the warranty slip:

PLEASE DIRECT ALL CORRESPONDENCE TO:
Element TV Company, LP Customer Serivce
(844) 334-2355

...which is the same as their tech support number. guess
correspondence goes to a phone menu? then?

this is properly intriguing. i get the sense they really do
not want to be identified

i'm simply curious how this thing came to exist. it's
fascinating to me like this

if it's any assistance asda didn't go out of bizness, that's
where the guy was hassling me about my tobacco purchase!
owned by walmart but they kept the name. there are off brand
(but not necessarily offf brand) consumer electronics for
sale in their bigger stores, yeah. maybe do a little digging
on the walmart connection, but i would guess they're some
sweatshoppy company that flies below the radar

this seems like a talented band of pirates, this H5. i'll
put them in my rolodex for "when i have six figures to spend
on a music video." yeah, that folder will be relevant any
time now

i feel like it's almost a blog-article sorta potential.
start ringing phones; go gumshoe to determine how da fuk
this tv came to exist.

my tv: an extremely organized pattern of molecules from
unfathomable sources. sorcery

of the night knee deep in books and coffee

or videodrome, perhaps you will tune into a tv station that
broadcasts extreme sexual violence and you will grow a
psychic tumour

ohhh, if life were only that cool/interesting. sort of like
Christianity, there are moments I wish I could believe in
such fings, because it would make life more fun and exciting
than the dreary crapshow that is reality. no, what I will
find, I figure, is a strangely organic result from numerous
international business concerns and supply chain logistics.
While I find this thing fascinating, I doubt the resulting
blog entry will have the draw of an actual conspiracy.

you might find a printed help me message on the circuit
board from a Foxconn plant, that's the most likely

maybe if i worked for motherboard.tv i'd have the budget to
destroy a $250 tv by taking it apart

LAZY_REVIEW

dont like the way they enjoy reviewing it as crap.
truly biased by the price. i mean who the fuck judges the
packing material like that? but then i probably would have
done it the exact same way...
imagine they were told the price was like 2000 and would
praise it for its lightweight instead.

great computer voice btw
