trippin on films

back in the days i was trippin pretty easily. some weed or
some psilos from the meadow and boom – sucked into a black
hole

a few times i was tripping on films:

naked lunch
made me feel like i'm on another planet, burned a mark in my
amygdala

bring out the dead
threw me into a dark hole and made me feel lonely and
brittle

butterfly effect
annoyed, confused and scared me and made me feel small and
ephemeral

lost highway
surprisingly made me feel very calm and cool

any suggestions for good films to trip on? i'll have some
free time in the beginning of august and i'm planning on
making some trips on films in my apartment

i tried this one on weed but fell asleep. i think the
problem was that it's a bunch of weird episodes thrown
together. i need some kind of storyline

I took a Hoffmann double drop with a friend. It was strong!
I won’t bore you with everything that happened, but at one
point we were watching Schindler’s List, a couple of
friends had turned up and I didn’t want them to know I was
on acid. I felt like it obviously showed, but it later
transpired that it didn’t. They were sitting next to me
and I could see their legs in the right place but their
torsos and heads were a few meters behind. I started to turn
the film into a cartoon, and for some reason I desperately
needed to laugh. Not because it was now a cartoon, but
because the context and the idea of laughing seemed
irresistible. It wasn’t an anti Jew thing either. I wish I
could remember why exactly I found schindler’s List funny.

Tim Maughan of Anime News Network describes the film as
"something very special, very different, and insanely
exhilarating." In particular he praises the film's director,
saying that "Koike has managed to make all this chaos
believable." He goes on to say that "Redline is animation
not only at its best, but also largely animation for
animation's sake." Although Maughan says some may dislike
its techno soundtrack and "minimal plot," he calls Redline
"the most insanely exciting, visually exhilarating anime
film you've seen in decades."[5]

Thomas Zoth of Mania.com comments that while the film does
not provide "a deep plot or unique premise," it still
"demands to be seen." He said that if Scott Pilgrim vs. the
World was "an assault on the senses ... Redline is a
declaration of war." Zoth went on to praise the film for its
"imaginative creatures and clever designs", to compare
Koike's work to that of Quentin Tarantino, and to compliment
the film for its "soundtrack, with its memorable high-energy
tracks that greatly complement the chaos onscreen." He
concludes by saying that if "the life of the industry has
been drained and replaced with rote, cookiecutter
shows-by-committee, Redline shows a path out."[18]

Nicolas Penedo of the French magazine Animeland describes it
as the "Paris-Dakar revisited à la Ōban Star-Racers",[19]
a remake of Hanna-Barbera Wacky Races with arts inspired
from Jack Kirby comics and know-how, rhythm and energy
inherent of the best Japanese anime movies.[20] The reviewer
praises the animation quality as breathtaking,[21] and
declares that Takeshi Koike made an homage to comics and
films of the 70s and 80s.[21] On the negative, he notes the
lack of scenario stating "Don't hope to find any scenario in
Redline".[21]

Kwenton Bellette and Peter Martin reviewed Redline for
Twitch Film. Bellette describes it as a "truly out of this
world experience", "Speed Racer on crack" and praised the
supporting characters for being memorable and the background
galaxy ma

that film changed my life. the director said something like,
"i wanted to make a film that would show americans what
japanese animation is capable of."

this sounds pretentious at first glance, but it's a bit lost
in translation. i've come to believe that what he meant was,
"i want to make something that is absurdly, mind-bendingly
complex, but also digestable."

it succeeds. it literally brought me to tears. i said "i'd
like to show the japanese what an american with a computer
can do, someday." you know, return the favor

It was the absurdity of it all. That’s what was
ultimately, in my state, making me laugh. A nervous laugh I
guess, and a release.

Watching any and every Tarkovsky film, with the sole
exception of The Sacrifice, I fall asleep. They take me a
week to watch. But yes, Andrei Rublev, it's hypnotic. And
without giving anything away, the ending is just...
mindblowing. Something really simple but it feels like ....
oooooof. I'm not religious but it makes me wish I was. I get
a bit teary just thinking about it. That and that ... I'm a
bit of a gay, I suspect.

Altered states baby. Tried watching synecdoche. It got bored
so fast I just wasn’t in the right mood and had to stop.
Yet I have that feeling I have to watch it. You’re talking
about New York, right?

yep, both synecdoche, new york and adaptation are written by
charlie kaufmann. i loved adaptation so i gave synecdoche a
go and wasn't disappointed. i really like the actors and the
weird characters they play. both films start slow until u
feel like you're standing inside an escher painting. not so
much visually but from what the characters and places mean.
like a neurotic version of stalker or something. i also
liked his animation film anomalisa
