yeah its such a futuristic song, I have a bit of cognitive
dissonance when Its set to that footage as it sounds about 3
decades newer

imagine travelling back in time and messing up the time
continuum by leaving the music notes of acid brass band in
Victorian times, and 808 state was being played at the
changing of the guard and proms in the present

we'd lose allot of music ....no records made would ever
exist.

but we'd gain lots too.

our music might be like baby talk at this moment in time
even the true greats might just be touching the surface.

give it 100 years when super computers get more involved we
might start talking in new ways in music?

if you went back to protozoic earth and left one of your toe
nail clippings in the primordial soup, perhaps the earth
would eventually be dominated by toe people, all other life
forms extinct

I think currency might die out like in star trek, and ideas
or something will become the new currency, after all when
everything is created by AI and robots in some sort of space
communism and we have a surplus of things in the far future
what will be worth anything anyway

I think we will end up as creatures of pure thought and when
that becomes obsolete pure emotion or perhaps just turn into
a new physical law

funnily i was thinking of this on my bike today, when kids
stop speaking english and talk in c++ and then get
computerised ...as soon as that happens and they just talk
and sense in 0's and 1's ...whats lifes worth when anything
is possible in the pc.

then i stopped thinking, i think i had to go through a t
junction.

offline freqy on 2018-06-04 17:04 [#02553562]
Points: 18724 Status: Regular | Show recordbag

but can you properly sense in 0's and 1's ? or do you need a
little bit of orgainc matter to sense pain?

theres no point unless you can feel...otherwise you become
like rimmer.

flesh in his light bee.

stage,

pain does have an important function, its like a desperate
alarm that something is wrong, so in the future it might be
a disadvantage for machines not to experience pain in such a
dangerous universe

offline freqy on 2018-06-04 17:14 [#02553570]
Points: 18724 Status: Regular | Show recordbag

thats the difference tho, machines are logical.

if they are programmed to avoid, they will avoid, a human
might have look and take a peek.

Points: 30707 Status: Regular | Followup to freqy: #02553570

yeah the difference I think is that pain gives a massive
imperative, I don't know if its different than setting a
variable to maximum to avoid, pain sort of breaks the logic,
its so extreme its beyond 100% in a way

offline freqy on 2018-06-04 17:15 [#02553573]

animals need pain without it we would never have got out the
pond.

offline freqy on 2018-06-04 17:18 [#02553575]

you could think that the other way around.

to rescue a child people jump through fire or climb up
burning stair cases.

a machine at 100 percent is like infinite pain and there is
no illogic.

that's why terminator could not be reasoned with at all.

A machine with organic pain IC linked to godly values
software. Could the machine be as soulful as a human?

Do we think we are so special just because we feel pain?

its naïve to think we are special in any particular way, we
obey the laws of nature just like anything else, I was
thinking this because I watched the episode of star trek
where data creates his own daughter

could i make my toaster feel?

so if it burns my toast one more time it gets an 80 year
dream of living on Earth as a human with all the ups and
downs we go through till old age and death. ( in a split
second using worm hole tech) then when it reincarnates back
into toastie, it can try again not to burn my toast else its
back to earth.

i might just be a toaster living this nightmare on earth.

that spark of consciousness, its very hard to define, I
suppose its the ability to be creative and think and feel in
a none linear way, but any attempt to categorise it feels
inadequate and very unsatisfactory, its like a experience
rather than a blue print to analyse

I have a similar though that we are existing on main
different realities and timelines simultaneously, like a dot
on the surface of a balloon, is equidistant from any other
point on the surface

offline freqy on 2018-06-04 17:35 [#02553584]

or just play a long playlist of videos to the toaster
...like documentaries on chem trails, plastic pollution,
deforestation, undercover slaughter house tv, with
compassion set to 100 percent. surly then mr toaster will
not burn the toast.

but again i forget, setting to 100 percent in the software
....there is no playlist that can compare.

so i think digital software is more trustworthy than human
feeling and illogic but can be hacked and altered in the
blink of a eye.

although they are making mistakes, falling over, it is not
from 100 percent of doing its best.

Machines always give 100 percent to follow the program.

it's the humans that mess up with latency and wiring and
interference and all those many issues that can go wrong.

so adding pain to a machine when the software and hardware
is not up to scratch would actually be hardcore abuse and
pointless.

a machine is always doing its job 100 percent even when
running idle.

A machine wont get up any quicker with a painful voltage to
an organic IC.

yes that's true, I don't think you could make a machine
understand humans without pain, but perhaps that's for the
best, empathy comes from experiencing pain yourself I think
or partly does

this is all getting rather metaphysical I must say!

yeah pain would unnecessarily burden it purely from an
efficiency point of view, I wouldn't want machines to
experience it, I think it would be ethically wicked to
burden the ability to feel pain on something, perhaps
sentience to machines is morally wrong

Pain is great. Just not when it gets too high voltage lol ;
)

maybe we could make devices that do not have to work for us
but are purely designed to live amazing lives.

They could just be a box, but inside is the most incredible
VR world where the entity lives.

you can buy one or adopt .. and it just sits on your table
top. just a box. no noise no monitor just a monolith type
box. but inside the entity is going on roller coaster rides
and playing at rock concerts, designing planets,..nothing
but pure pleasure, a perfect happy life.

but you get just a box and maybe a certificate.

The reverse of how we treat devices today. : )
