What will you do once your internet-connection fails (as
will inevitably happen at some point in time)?

Do you mean streaming is bad, or do you mean playing a wav
from your computer or phone is wrong?

I think most people here would agree that steaming is shit.

As for not listening to music on a computer, well how do I
listen to my Autechre live and elseq wavs? No physical
release.

oh Rustin , are you experiencing technical difficulties?

Maybe the steam has rusted your headphone socket?

Didnt know they sent data through water vapour tho...

I download their entire discogs, and will them psychically
to make more music. Actually I do occasionally buy stuff
when I have the cash, I know you cant make good music on a
diet of cornflakes and pot noodles

I can agree that some people have way to much music that
they don’t listen to. But I would argue that you can still
have WAVs or FLACs and treat them with utter respect. Yes
the computer and internet made most of us not appreciate
what we have, but ultimately it shouldn’t be a question of
what tools you use. As far as they go, sound quality is my
only worry.

Putting a record on is still a thrill for me, but it
doesn’t mean I should only listen to music that way.

I dunno, I think I get ya, Mo, but I do think bits are lost
in translation.

As long as you have a nice amp, speakers and a DAC. Then
FLAC/WAV are awesome.

offline Hyperflake from Wirral (United Kingdom) on 2018-01-04 20:07 [#02541552]

I have loads of Flac files, not because I'm an audiophile,
but it just seems sensible to Rip stuff to the optimal
setting. 99.9% of the time I'm fine with stream stuff. but
yeah nice to have the flacs for portability, walking around

y can buy all sorts of cool cheap audio gear on ebay on a
budget.
some nice DAC. Also old amps no one wants cause they havent
got an optical input. And you can bid last second on some
speakers ( best to bid not on a weekend, early hours of the
morning in the week)

I suppose I need something that doesn't need multitrack
capabilities as I do the mixing on the sequencer, or on the
fly with mixer;

It needs a bit of repairing actually, ive had a very
frustrating time with that mixer, pans aren't working
properly, outputs dodgy

offline freqy on 2018-01-04 20:36 [#02541576]

you use a sequencer, so you have a PC with a sound card
going into a mixer ( is it an analog or digtial mixer?)

what sound card do you have?

offline Hyperflake from Wirral (United Kingdom) on 2018-01-04 20:37 [#02541577]

I use midiports on pc to synths, and outputs of synths to
mixer

offline RussellDust on 2018-01-04 20:37 [#02541578]

Autechre use anything, have even used mobile phones to
record stuff. One track I know was made mostly with an
iPhone app. Be creative.

offline freqy on 2018-01-04 20:37 [#02541579]

so your mixing and playing sound out of a sequecer into an
analog mixer for some reason?

why not mix in the box?

however, if the sound card is adequate use the sound card
input and record back into the PC

offline freqy on 2018-01-04 20:38 [#02541580]

ah external synths. o.k , use the sound card input.

ah i see so you use no audio from the pc....you only have a
midi interface

why not get a sound card like an emu 0404 and record into
the pc.

yes I thought about that, would it effect the latency of the
midi at all, or cpu, or is it not processor intensive at all

Honestly I agree Russell, imagination always takes
precedence, I don't really care for sound quality too much,
as long as its serviceable

utilise your PC and data storage.

you can record up to 192khz on an emu 0404

very nice sound cheap as chips . you only need a pci
version not the pcie

I might get a cheap DAT machine off ebay one day for a
laugh, or a cassette deck, or just get a soundcard with
inputs on it like Freqy was saying
