There must be a program or source forge project out there which is the best music file organizer out there. I've googled this, and I worry that the top results are just business gimmicks... fisher sites.
I ask this message board, real music folk, what's the best music file organizer you've used?

I keep my tapes in a shoebox, my cd's in a couple of those travel folders, and my vinyl records back at my mum and dad's.

I pay a japanese import to keep my house clean and to organize my stuff. Only downside is she orders everything using the japanese alphabet.

i finally started using itunes and it comes in handy when you have albums or compilations you dont listen through. it has a rating system that lets you organize a playlist based on your ratings also inside an artist or genre(s).
for expample i have some ska albums and surf music compilations i dont like every song but still want to keep the majority of em. they are organized well in itunes. the major downside is it doesnt let you import flac :/

i think you don't do it anymore but the library function of your player does it
i don't use that so just use a folder tree structure with genres > artist
please use foober2000 instead of iTunes

I decided to search Wikipedia instead of Google...
I was lead to exactly what I wanted:
musicbrainz.org
A mass tagger, file organizer, duplicate finder, all with an integrated audio fingerprint technology.
This is like iTunes and Shazam on crack!

I am kind of looking for the same thing, only for wav files. Something that would allow me to preview soundfiles in a folder, tag them individually, and then send them to a predesignated group of folders for further organization or deletion.
