Moral Dilemma

Say, I really hate the idea of millions of chickens couped
up in little cages, yet i really like the taste of KFC's
potato chips.... am i morally accountable for the
ill-treatment of all those chickens when I buy a large batch
of their chips?

Same goes for any of the other asshole companies. I like
french fries. What am I to do?

you can either stop giving a fuck and buy the fries or you
can decide to only eat french fries with are made
sustainably/by a sustainable company. either way you'll be
happier.

they are really bad for you anyway.

what you are craving is the fat and salt.

so buy some healthy fat like hemp oil...and poor some of
that on smoe veggie food. and add some salt. your cravings
will go away. .

offline freqy on 2010-01-31 06:12 [#02363307]

one reason people can't eat veggie food is causer they
never
feel full or totally satisfied ...not enough fat and salt.
great thing is you can add the oil ( hemp is the best
balance of omega 3 6 9 ) better than olive oil. its great.

fearnly-whittingstall pretended they loved the chucks, i
imagine they made more money out of it then they actually
cared about the chickens tho.

No body can be a vegan in a city, unless you fast on water
and grow your own veg....but even then you use water,
funding the water board which is run by a work force of meat
eaters. Almost all companies have a meat eating work force
..so you fund them, so they can buy meat to make you a
computer or drive a bus. Only because none of them were
educated by the national curriculum to show they could be
healthy from a plant base diet and even win gold medals like
carl lewis or offer a magnitude of contributions to the
physics world like Einstein.

the potatoes the chips were made out of.

I bet the chickens are more incensed at them being referred
to as chips. That might even be still in the blue laws in
the sovereign state of Kentucky. Fish and chips is
tolerated, but hamburgers and chips or chicken and chips,
hm.

dude, chicken and chips is a classic british pub dish,
served in a basket layer of chips (not crisps) in the bottom
1/4 or half a chicken, fried on top.

what are you on about not being able to be vegan in a city?
it's gonna be a lot easier to be vegan somewhere there are
more options available to you. is there some black hole in
cities where vegetables, beans, and tofu suddenly become
unavailable?

offline freqy on 2010-01-31 17:36 [#02363462]

i pay tax , water rates, wages for shop keepers bus drivers
. almost all of these companies and teams of people use
animals as their energy source to do the work i pay them to
do . so i fund their diets. that means i fund abuse.
veganism is not achievable in any city you pay tax, you fund
abuse. 'veganism in intent' is more accurate.

for fuck's sake, being vegan is about not eating
animal products. your morals and rationale behind the
decision are yours alone. i think you're confusing veganism
with an off-the-grid sustainable lifestyle. there is no
'real' vegan. jeez.

okay, well it's not just about diet, but still, it's about
minimizing your impact. from the vegan society, via
wikipedia:

[T]he word "veganism" denotes a philosophy and way of living
which seeks to exclude — as far as is possible and
practical
— all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty
to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by
extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free
alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the
environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of
dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from
animals.

they're not asking you to go live in a hovel somewhere, just
be conscious of what you consume. you know what happens if
all the people who care enough to become vegans flee to the
country? the cities become 100% populated with imbeciles who
couldn't give two shits about sustainability, and the world
just continues going to shit.

from what i've seen freqy you seem to have a very black and
white moral attitude, and even while many of your ideas may
be on the side of what many would call good and noble,
there's so much that can be done with idealism before you
realize that part of why it's so hard to make things perfect
is they all have to work in concert with each other - what
may work in an isolated idealized situation just doesn't
hold up when exposed to a thousand other mitigating
factors.

i.e. sure if you move out to the country and farm all your
own beans, veggies, non-meat whatever, you're actually going
to be using a lot more energy than if you were raising your
own chickens and farming sustainably (like not tofu and
beans and corn oil for your car etc, these things waste tons
of energy). there's a lot more to survival of the human race
than saving one chicken's feelings.

offline freqy on 2010-01-31 18:32 [#02363475]

youve gone off on one again

" there's a lot more to survival of the human race
than saving one chicken's feelings. "

when did you assume i was ever talking about saving the
human race in this thread and that i said saving a single
chicken would do the job?

if we all ate plant based diets the deforestation would be
dramatically reduced , methane in the atmos would also
dramatically reduce.
it is so less efficient to eat animals than plants ! its
just so ridiculous this whole subject.

you think of something that doesn't make sense in your head
, then you blame others for thinking it.

i don't need to argue, because i really care about
animals and our energy needs too. and i do know many
solutions but no one cares enough to try.

animals die, so what's the problem with eating them? Freqy
what about other animals, they eat smaller prey, so are they
doing a bad thing? It's just the food chain.

sorry i its just frustrating to have to deal with this
system i feel i am locked in. funding abuse is unavoidable.
then to have to talk about animals and question do their
feelings count? of course they count , to me and to them!
we care.! and is why i try to avoid as much hurting of them
as possible. be it riding my bike instead of catching a bus
..or simply buying an apple instead of a cheese burger!

if i hate the fact i fund a government that supports animal
experimentation
i have every right to speak about it! and people should know
what they fund. i do not feel i can be vegan , maybe in
intent, but really a label is all a load of tot!

humans have the ability to choose their way of living far
more broadly than any wild animal. We have a unique ability
to distinguish what is right or wrong ( which depends on
what you concide right or wrong.) i concider right doing
good for others and not causing pain. ( so i apologie for
these posts if i give a head ache)

i concider geting on a bus to go to town wrong if i am
'able' with a bicycle!
because i can do it with ease, save money, reduce weight on
the bus ( less fumes) and not give my money to another that
he/she might do what i consider wrong with it. like buy a
big mac for driving me to town!!
lol :P

dude, all it is is a label. there's no need to lament about
it. you do what you can in your situation and live with it.
there's ways you can fight the injustices you see other than
not riding a bus to avoid contributing to the paychecks of
meat eaters, because honestly, they're not hearing you.
