"I’m old enough to know that when 99% of the population is
marching lockstep in one direction, sometimes it’s wise to
break rank and go the other way."

In an incredibly bold move, DJ Shadow whines about how
people don't buy his music anymore.

I did end up reading all of it.
What an incredibly lame guy :)

The bit about him feeling his music has value, and thus
monetary value, is just sad.

I really must hate myself and my music if I keep on
spreading it for free all over the internet.

Midlife Crisis.

This made me laugh: "Music can only suggest sex and
violence…the Internet provides both, full frontal and full
strength, 24/7. Maximum dose.
"

Link please!?!?

I read it all and quite a few of the comments. I'm glad
that the comments actually tell him how stupid his opinions
are.

Also his 'Crate digging' activities never went to the
'Artists', supported a few thrift stores though.

Maybe not with music. But i do wonder for other areas where
you actually really need money to produce something. Ok i'd
gladly see the current blockbuster movies die out but i'm
glad some films are financed and the time is taken to make
them. I dunno. He's being self-righteous and devoid of any
subtlelty but surely we've all thought about it a little
bit. Good thing is there's a lot more musicians doing great
stuff with what they can. Nothing is dead.

I found one of these in a shop that's in Salts
Mill, the gallery owned by David Hockney. It's all updated
to HDTV and HDMI and all that bollocks but it is a really
comforting watch!

"When was the last time you saw a ‘new,’ post-record
company artist headline a major music festival? At this
rate, we’ll be stuck with Coldplay for decades (no offense
intended)."

No offense intended, lads, just saying you're fucking
dreadful!

"And much like the TV of the ‘60s and ‘70s, you will
NEVER hear or read anything negative about the Internet ON
the Internet."

I think the only website he browses is his own.

Mr Shadow seems to like capitalising every alternate word,
as if he's recruiting for some sort of cult of musicality.

I know we're not there yet, but ideally, by being a little
thrifty and if people are willing to help, if they actually
want to make a film instead of doing a job, a film should
hardly cost anything at all, especially since the advent of
digital cameras. We'd need a pretty huge societal shift so
it's a bit silly, but at least money is not an absolute
necessity.

Or we can just not care and drop anything that costs too
much to make, because there are other, more practical way to
do things.

Oooh nice, just think though that DJ Shadow's probably trying
to keep warm huddled round an original one of those,
thinking about how costly it's been "keeping it real" all
these years and sobbing into a limited edition japanese
baseball cap.

I saw a crappy portable b/w telly outside a junk shop today
on my way in the BITING COLD to the pub at lunchtime (much
like DJ Shadow as he makes his way to the studio, with the
soles of his shoes flapping and his coat lined with second
hand record inner sleeves) and I thought I could maybe watch
on VHS tapes on it.

You need time. You need food for the actors, maybe even pay
them so they can pay their rent etc .... You're right, we're
not there yet. I want to be there though of course.

You should get that telly! I love watching local news on
it, then going to the pub just next to BBC Leeds and
checking out the Weather girls.

What an enchanting scene. Can we get DJ Shadow to come down
off of Mount HipHop and learn to love again the simple joys
of pub, telly, and the weather girls? Or is he TOO FAR GONE?

It's probably not best for me to answer!

I download shit loads of music and films etc. I buy loads
of music and films too if it's convenient and I really want
it. I always buy software though, I don't know why, I just
feel I should.

He thinks he should be Pink FLoyd. Wrong era, mate. You
don't need to pay for a studio and waste record company
money anymore. Especially with what he does. I don't think
i've ever heard Madlib or someone of the like moan. I think
DJ Shadow's problem is Entroducing sold way too many albums.

Mostly ones I would not have taken a chance on if I hadn't

why he's not getting all the money he thinks he deserves.

end for him.

It's his albums are shite, plus, Dj Hero bombed in the
gaming market. He's probably got some limited edition
Japanese shoe laces on order that he can't pay for.
