i like some of his music, but it's not about that. it's his
last.fm bio:

"Susumu Yokota is an electronic artist from Japan and widely
accepted as one of the most talented composers and producers
in electronic music today."

????!

that's bold. real goddamn bold son.

thoughts?

You know, I actually agree with that.

it's a bold statement but on the other hand when it comes to
real "talent" it's difficult to mention anyone else.

that's the key question. what is meant with "talented" ?

are you up and coming, or are you still talented after being
in the business for 30 years?

if the latter is true, i could mention 30 artists "more
talented".

on a good day i might accept the talented and up and coming
variant, but.. i dunno..

you know DUDE, we're not discussing whether other artists
are more or less talented than susumu yokota.

"widely accepted as the most talented".

i haven't read this shit anywhere else than on last.fm. i
want to see quotes.

offline sadist from the dark side of the moon on 2009-11-25 15:21 [#02346912]

quite a delicate topic in fact.

but it is you see a bit like mozart - you don't have to like
his music at all. you can even hate it. but you have to
admit that he had some "talent" which is not intensified by
mass media or last.fm

you misunderstand the topic completely.

whether i like him or not is irrelevant and therefor i don't
have to admit shit.

i'm asking on what basis you can say the following about him
on a "serious" page like last.fm:

"widely accepted as one of the most talented composers and
producers in electronic music today."

of course it's relevant if you like him or not. if you would
you would never create this topic.

also - i'm sure that there are a lot of entries on last.fm
with similar statements that you totally agree with.

if you read the first six words of my OP you know what i
think of his music.

it's not like i have anything against susumu yokota. i like
the guy.

and no, i can't remember reading statements as bold as the
aforementioned.

pretty much every bio/press release is like that. artists
and labels aren't gonna say they're shit, are they? very few
are actually modest.

some person's name + question mark does not constitute a
comprehensible or even acceptable subject line. let's not
make this mistake again, alright?

As for Yokota, i'd say he's one of the most talented
composers and producers in electronic music today. I heard
he used to suffer from Helvetica Scenario.

Who cares what it says, it not a reflection of the artist's
thoughts on their own work. It won't have been written by
him.

The correct aswer is: susumy yokota is NOT widely accepted
as one of the most talented composers andproducers in
electronic music today.

I'm glad to clear that up.

Why does the japanese techno stars use their own names? They
all sound the same! susoku yakatomo! yakuza mokataso! katuma
sakatomu! Why can't they have names like Japonpusher or
Tokyo Twin?
