I just wanted to know about everyone's opinions on sampling; when is it cool an not cool, whether or not you feel a little guilty when you sample. ...and what are people's alltime favourite sample cds. ...most cheeky sample that you've taken. etc. |

Front Line Assembly do a lot of sampling. My favorite is Flavour of the Weak because it's evil. |

i think when you create a whole song out of another is not cool (a la puff daddy; who for me, has ruined some great songs). samples i like that sort of stick out is something like the bob dylan sample beastie boys used in (i think) finger licken' good. (on a side note, paul's botique is great album) |

I usually get and idea for a sample and record it myself. It feels a lot more satisfying. I do however, enjoy using samples from The Usual Suspects for my spookier tunes. |

Sampling as an art form is fine, using sampled instruments and shit like that, but not sampled vocal tracks or actual musical pieces (like whole drum loops or bass lines) just keep your thievery minimal |

i'd agree. just little chords, keys, kicks, snares etc, so you can sequence them yourself. thats half the fun anyway |

i think stealing samples in good as long as it's not totally ripped from some else's music. Like take for instance, samples from a movie like A Clockwork Orange. I think it's cool to use stuff like that to give music a little depth. The Main Components of Good Music (In My Opinion): 1. Rhythm 2. Melody 3. Texture (samples, audio noise, etc.) and 4. (optional) vocals |
